What causes Peripheral Neuropathy? Well it has many different causes.

Some people inherit the disorder from their parents. Others develop it because of an injury or another disorder.

In many cases, a different type of problem, such as a kidney condition or a hormone imbalance, leads to peripheral neuropathy.

One of the most common causes of peripheral neuropathy in the U.S. is diabetes. Nerves can also be damaged from medicines, such as chemotherapy, toxins, including alcohol and some illegal drugs, and infections like Lyme disease or HIV.

What exactly is Peripheral Neuropathy? Simply put, it's a type of damage to the nervous system. Specifically, it's a problem with your peripheral nervous system.

The peripheral nervous system is a network of nerves that sends information from your brain and spinal cord, also called the central nervous system, to the rest of your body.

Peripheral nerves are the nerves that exit the spinal canal or skull and go to your face, arms and legs.

The most common method your doctor will recommend to treat nerve pain in the feet is with prescription drugs.

The prescriptions may temporarily reduce your symptoms but they may also cause you to feel uncomfortable and have a variety of harmful side effects.

The most common names of these drugs used to help nerve pain are Gabapentin, Lyrica, Cymbalta, and Neurontin. They are primarily used as an antidepressant or anti-seizure drugs.

In contrast, our treatment starts with a consultation and examination to determine the severity of your nerve damage. We perform non-evasive tests and then create a treatment option for you that doesn't include drugs.

Call our office today at (385) 223-6320 to book your appointment to come in for a consultation. You'll be so glad you did!
