Great News: For the first time ever, Tahoe Daily Tribune is including "Plant-Based Menu" in their Best of Tahoe contest! Unfortunately, 3 of the 5 finalists only have one or two plant-based items marked on their menus, while another restaurant that has 9 plant-based menu items isn't being included as finalist. Weird. Nevertheless, PLEASE help support plant-based efforts in Tahoe by voting for one or both of the following restaurants that do have several plant-based items marked on their menus:

Attention Plant-Based Tahoe: For the first time ever, Tahoe Daily Tribune is including "Plant-Based Menu" in their BEST OF TAHOE contest! Nominations have already begun – please cast your vote! It's fast and easy.

*Because the contest is for best "plant-based menu", please only vote for restaurants that have good vegan options clearly marked on their menus. If getting something vegan at a restaurant requires explaining modifications to a server, that restaurant shouldn't count. Ultimately only 3 restaurants will win this "Best of Tahoe" category, so the minimum requirement should be good vegan options clearly marked on menus.

Here's how to vote:
1) Go to https://www.tahoedailytribune.com/best/ #/group/439/
2) Scroll down to "Plant-based menu"
3) Click "Vote" for whichever restaurant you like most (registration is instant)

Note that there may be some bogus nominations. As far as I know, the only Tahoe restaurants with vegan options marked on their menus are:
1) Maria's (7 vegan menu items, 3+ meat alternatives)
2) Frescana (9 vegan menu items, 1 meat alternative)
3) Freshies Ohana (10 vegan menu items)
4) Artemis (3 vegan items)
5) Bettys Balls/Tapas (2 vegan items)
6) Sprouts (only 1 vegan option is clearly marked)
7) Aleworx (2 vegan add-ons with big upcharge)
8. Three Pines Coffee (2 vegan food items)

That list is in approximate order of # of V items. IMO, only the first 3 have substantial vegan menus at this point (but don't let this comment influence your vote ;) ) If you know of other good ones, please comment here.

Most people who love Tahoe also care about protecting wildlife, and many of us consider companion animals part of our family. So why not have the same sentiment for horses?

⚠ Forcing horses to pull heavy loads of tourists around on city streets in summer heat isn't fun or romantic — it's cruel. Horse carriage rides are also unsafe (see link), completely unnecessary in 2023, and set a poor example for youth, visitors, and other cities.

Cattle (milk/dairy/beef) are responsible for more global warming than all cars + trucks + boats + trains + planes in the world combined. And cow's milk produces far more global warming than ~any~ plant milk. See informants (sources) below.

💧 Got drought? In California, animal "agriculture" uses about 45% of our state's water, while households use 5%.
