The Timeless Crane A Timeless Crane mobile is a custom hand made work of art that you and your family can enjoy for years. I started selling my mobiles through eBay in 2007.

Since then I have set up my own website (www.thetimelesscrane.com), and I also sell mobiles and other origami gifts on Etsy. Quick History of Origami and My Introduction to Origami and Mobiles

Origami is often defined as the art of folding paper to create three-dimensional figures of animals, people, objects, and shapes. The Japanese word "Origami" is a combination of the verb oru (to fold) and the noun kami (paper). I was introduced to the art of Origami in the fourth grade, when my teacher had our class read "Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes" and fold 1000 paper cranes to ship to Japan. Their destination was Sadako's monument in Hiroshima, Japan. In 1955 a Japanese girl named Sadako was diagnosed with leukemia at the age of twelve. Her cancer developed as a result of the radiation from the Hiroshima bombing in 1945 when she was 2 years old. In the hospital she learned of a legend where a wish would be granted to anyone who folded 1000 paper cranes. With the wish to be healed, Sadako began folding 1000 paper cranes, but only managed to complete 644 of her 1000 cranes. Even though Sadako died within a year of her diagnosis, her story lives to this day. Today there is a statue of Sadako holding a golden crane in the Hiroshima Peace Park in Japan. The words, "This is our cry, this is our prayer, peace in the world" are inscribed at the bottom of the statue. As a child I was captivated by this story of Sadako and her 1000 paper cranes, and I would find myself folding cranes out of any paper I happened to be holding. Over the years I've folded thousands of paper cranes out of event programs, gum wrapers, and napkins, and Origami paper. Everything about Origami fascinated me and I learned how to fold numerous other Origami models besides the crane - a worldwide symbol of peace. My favorite Origami model is still the paper crane, and I will always remember the day I learned how to fold my very first crane. Incidentally, that same fourth grade teacher had a delicate sailboat mobile hanging
above a classroom window. I wasn't much of a daydreamer in school, but I spent lots of time staring at that mobile in wonder - watching the little boats dance in the breeze. The perfect balance of each wire fascinated me, and I attempted to construct several extravagant mobiles at home with little success. Years later I worked as a grader for this same teacher, who to my delight still had the sailboat mobile hanging by the window. I studied this mobile with fresh eyes, observing the way each boat hung from the wires and the way they never collided. I replaced a few missing sails with colored paper so the mobile could once again be properly balanced and complete. After that I had to try making a hanging mobile again. As a child I fell in love with hanging mobiles and the art of Origami, and now as an adult I enjoy combining these two art forms when I make Hanging Origami Mobiles. My hope is to capture the imagination of children and adults alike, and to share the symbol of peace - the paper crane.

A couple of days ago I found my first monarch caterpillar eggs of the year! The eggs hatched yesterday so the babies have been moved into the baby bug jar. It was a challenge finding those eggs, and I got 3 mosquito bites during my search, but it was worth it! I’m so excited to start raising caterpillars again!!!
šŸŽ‰
All the rain this summer has led to a population boon in mosquitos. I’m honestly considering getting a bee keepers suit for when I go egg hunting in my garden. I can’t think of another way to avoid getting eaten alive by mosquitos this year.
🦟
Today I found two more baby caterpillars to join the other two in the baby bug jar. They were close to the same area where the other eggs were found, and the caterpillars are all the same size, so I’m thinking they were all eggs from the same butterfly.
šŸ¤”
Last year around this time I already had several large caterpillars, and a couple of chrysalises. I’m wondering if all the rain has been delaying the monarch butterfly migration this year? More mosquitos and less butterflies is not my idea of an ideal summer, but at least the monarchs have finally arrived!!!

When I was 10 I fell in love with a frilly layered pink bedspread in a department store catalog. That bedspread with its matching pink pillow shams resembled something out of Barbie’s dream house, except it was Debora’s dream house in this case. I was so in love with it that my parents got it for me when it came time to buy new bedding.
šŸ’–
It didn’t take long for the strong color to begin grating on my nerves, and over time the color pink became a color that I desperately avoided in all my personal dress and decor decisions. To this day I still avoid anything too pink as I still fear getting sick of the color all over again.
šŸ™„
It was the first and last overwhelmingly pink thing I’ve ever owned, and the last time I ever wanted anything that pink. Interestingly though, pink paper crane mobiles are some of my absolute favorites - and the fact that they’re pink doesn’t bother me one bit!
šŸ˜†
This particular mobile was purchased as a breast cancer memorial gift, to be donated to a physician’s office. The customer wanted to choose the papers to be included, and selected a variety of handmade Japanese chiyogami pink paper prints from my collection. This mobile traveled all the way from Massachusetts to Hawaii to find its new home.
🌺
Swipe to see a picture of the closest thing I could find online to what I had as a child. What color did you love as a child that you avoid now?

I had a wonderful time sharing my love of crafting and origami with members of The College Church during the Easter Craft Vespers.
🄰
There were three main crafting stations: one for making pompom or flower pens, one for decorating pen holders with paper mosaics, and one for making origami tulips in a vase.
🌷
I spent most of the evening helping with the origami station, but once all the origami enthusiasts figured out what they were doing I had the chance to make some pompom pens. Which craft station would you have enjoyed the most?

Another big mobile in the works. This beauty should be ready to ship out on Friday!
🄳
I’ve always wanted to make and black and white ombrĆ© mobile, so I was super excited when my customer told me what he was looking for!
🄰
Now it’s just some glue here and there, and a few final touches and adjustments left. It’s always fun to see a mobile go from a pile of cranes and wires to this!

This is the most unprepared I have ever felt going into a Holiday Season. I’m just trying to get all the little things ready for when everything gets crazy busy and stressful around the Holidays.
😬
When I first started selling stuff online, back in college, I always included a little free gift. Back then it was a pen or some other tiny trinket, but with my mobiles it’s always been these tiny boxes.
šŸŽ
My daughter would say I’m obsessed with little boxes, and she’s right. I love how something cute and tiny can hold even cuter and tinier treasures inside!
🌟
I want to wish everyone a joyous Holiday Season with plenty of lights, love, and family… and hopefully not too much stress!
😊

Another massive project involving travel… this time to San Diego, California. This is a super unique project that involves me creating on site! I’ve been making mobiles at the and also teaching attendees how to fold paper cranes.
😁
I have been blessed with this really awesome opportunity to share my art and love for origami with over a thousand people over the span of three days. How amazing is that?! Thank you for inviting me to be a part of this!
🄳
For me, making someone smile because of origami is one of the most wonderful things in the world! The smiles spreading across the faces of people when they lay eyes on these gorgeous cranes has warmed my heart immensely!
🄰
I started making mobiles in 2005, so it’s been a long road, but it’s incredible to think that I get to travel the world because of paper cranes! I am truly honored!
