Posting feels strange right now. When the world feels this heavy, sharing pretty things can feel small, even silly. So I needed to take a moment.

Here in Maine, and in our country, fear isn’t abstract. ICE is showing up in our neighborhoods and our schools, and that reality is weighing on our community. Many of our friends, customers, and neighbors are carrying real anxiety with them every day.

We want to say this clearly: this space is a safe space. Our door, our work, and our hearts are rooted in care, dignity, and belonging. We believe in looking out for one another, in choosing compassion when things feel frightening, and in standing with our community even when it’s uncomfortable or hard.

If you’re feeling scared, overwhelmed, or unsure, you’re not alone. We see you. We’re holding space for you. And we’re sending love, solidarity, and deep care to everyone navigating this moment.

I’m kicking off a brand new series where each week I’ll be doing a deep dive into a single essential oil, starting with some of the more obscure, often overlooked ones. Teaching our community about the benefits, history, and magic of essential oils is a big part of my mission, and I’m so excited to share that knowledge with you. We’re beginning with one of my all-time favorite oils, Bay Laurel ~ rich, powerful, and full of surprises. 🌿

An aromatic evergreen tree or large shrub with green, glabrous smooth leaves from the Mediterranean basin, Laurel Leaf has many uses. In the past, bay leaves were distilled with rum and the “bay-rum” so obtained was a famous hair tonic and body rub for colds and muscle pains. Bay oil was very popular with the Romans, who thought that the herb was symbolic of wisdom, peace and protection. The Latin ‘Laudis’ means ‘to praise”, which is why the victors at the Olympic games were presented with a laurel (bay) wreath. The modern title, “bachelor,” awarded to college graduates, is derived from the Greek word “bacca-laureus,” meaning laurel-berry. ⚡️

We’re kicking off the new year with full hearts, renewed energy, and so much excitement for what’s ahead. This year carries the spirit of the Horse ~ bold, hardworking, and always moving forward with purpose. It’s a reminder to trust our instincts, embrace momentum, and keep chasing what lights us up, even when the path gets a little wild.

We’re especially thrilled to be back in the shop, surrounded by the scents we love, and most importantly, ready to see all of your smiling faces again. There’s nothing that fuels us more than sharing this space and this season with our community.

As the year winds down and our break winds down, I am able to really reflect on so much. Especially how grateful I am for this magical space and our incredible community.
