Many med spas and surgery centers in South Carolina don’t realize that storing prescription medications may require a Non-Dispensing Drug Outlet Permit and a Consultant Pharmacist.

This applies to many facilities that store medications like Botox, fillers, IV medications, anesthetics, and other prescription products.

The issue is that permits can take months to obtain, and medications generally cannot be stored until approval is issued.

If you operate a facility in South Carolina and store prescription medications, it’s worth confirming whether this requirement applies to you.

Peptide Sciences shutting down is a reminder of something we’ve been telling the clinics we work with for years.

If a product is being administered to a patient, it should come from a legitimate medical supply chain. Not internet peptide vendors and not products labeled “research use only.”

In the wellness space, trends move fast and new compounds show up online almost overnight. The problem is that many of those products never belonged in a clinical setting to begin with.

When we bring on a new facility, one of the first things we do is review and approve where their medications are coming from. We’re very deliberate about the wholesalers and suppliers our sites use because that supply chain matters.

Shortcuts can look harmless until something like this happens.

Clinics that build their operations on regulated pharmaceutical sourcing don’t have to worry when a supplier disappears overnight.
