Spartanburg County has 7 emergency shelters available, with many opening at 12:00 noon today. Please don’t wait until roads are icy or power goes out – go NOW while it’s safe to drive.

To help keep our neighbors safe during extreme cold, a Cold Weather Shelter will be open:

🗓 Tonight, December 30 & December 31
🕖 7:00 PM – 9:00 AM
📍 701 Saxon Ave

🧣 Donation Drive:
🕕 6:00 PM – 10:00 PM
(Just before shelter opening)

We are also looking for compassionate volunteers to join our Shelter Team and support overnight operations.

SNAP Benefits & FoodShare Spartanburg important information!!

Because of the government shutdown, funding from the Federal Government will not be released for November SNAP benefits at this time. State SNAP offices administer benefits but do not control federal funding. When the Federal Government resumes, benefits will resume and any missed payments should be issued retroactively. No one will permanently lose their benefits due to the shutdown.

Families should continue to use their benefits as normal for any remaining dollars on their SNAP card. FOODSHARE SPARTANBURG HELPS FAMILIES STRETCH THEIR SNAP DOLLARS THROUGH OUR SUBSIDIZED FRESH FOOD BOX. Our box contains 9-12 varieties of fresh fruits and vegetables for $5 on your SNAP card, and an automatic $15 is applied from the state Healthy Bucks nutrition incentive fund. FoodShare continues to operate for our SNAP participants as normal, and we will seek continued ways to support our SNAP participants through this time of uncertainty. Half of our participants are on SNAP, and we will continue to serve both SNAP and CASH participants!

If you have SNAP, you can also sign up to order FoodShare boxes online and this gives you the opportunity to budget your remaining SNAP funds by ordering future boxes.
