Finished up April's drawing last week. I got it framed and varnished just in time thursday to drop it off in Hayward for the Hot Pink art show.

Thus time I even made the frame which is something I've been wanting to do for a long time. It gives it a nice finished design.

The show opened today, so you can see this flamingo in person at Art Beat in Hayward for the month of May.

April's drawing finished! A hot pink flamingo.

Today I got it mounted and varnished. Hopefully tomorrow I'll finish the frame I started. I'm excited to make some of my own floating frames for new work.

draw up as you inhale, draw down as you exhale. create art that holds your breath within in. each color represents a feeling, a time in your life. if this speaks to you, im holding a class April 25th called Art for mindfulness. this is just one practice we will do.

we’re going to create art that tells our stories.

The pieces we create contain our breath, our heartbeats, our souls.

They contain our deepest desires and the truths we hold close to our hearts.

Each line, each brush stroke, each pencil mark across your paper is you.

It’s the you that you want to be, and the you of 7 years ago, and the you in this moment.

When we reflect, it will be the story you create of how you sat down, took a deep breath, and learned to be ok in this moment.

It will be the story of how you overcame a fear, of how you took a chance and won.

Art doesn’t have to be pretty. It doesn’t need to look professional. It doesn’t need to be ready to sell. It just needs to be. To exist. At some point and time, in some form.

I used to only make art if I knew it was going to come out nice. To me, it was only worthy of space and supplies if it was perfect and would be interesting for someone to buy.

Now I know that it’s about the process. It doesn’t have to look pretty. It doesn’t have to be a final project. It doesn’t need to be sold. It doesn’t have to be created with a buyer in mind.

I can have art that is designed for that, of course, but art can still be made that doesn’t have a purpose more than me getting my emotions out onto paper.

It feels freeing to be able to just scribble across a paper. To create in a notebook and not stress over “wasting supplies” or if I did it ‘right’. I just get to put pencil to paper, breathe, and relax. It brings me back to center, it clears my mind.

In our Art for Mindfulness class on April 25th, we’ll create art that speaks to your soul. That let's the emotions out. That allows you to create something that doesn’t need to be worthy of social posts or framed on a wall. But it will be worthy of your time and energy. Think of it as moving meditation.

Art hasn't always been my therapy. Sometimes it's been my mirror. A reflection of how I showed up in other places. With all the best intentions, but poor executive functioning.

I can remember trying to paint on canvas with acrylic, and I would put one brush stroke down, and then roam around the house, then one bit of fur painted, then explore the pantry. Honestly, that's how I did everything in many ways. Do a tiny bit, and then run away.

Over the years, I've explored other mediums, explored the mind, dove into divination, and never stopped learning. So yes, I still jump from one thing to the next as my curiosity shifts, but each new thing adds a layer. I understand better how to bring the different mediums together, what types of art to create when I'm feeling overwhelmed, and what types of art to create when I'm feeling more adventurous and want to push myself.

In this class, I'll be talking about these experiences, how they connect with art and neurodivergence, and anxiety and stress. How to use art to get grounded and to feel less stressed so that you can move on through your day in a better headspace.

It’s Spring again! And Persephone has returned from the underworld, welcoming back warmer weather, new plant growth and a fresh energy. I painted this digitally back in 2022. Now I’m working on Inanna, from the Sumerian decent and rebirth stories. Persephone is from the later Greek stories. Each Goddess has her own story, her own reasons for being in the underworld, but both are connected with the vernal equinox and the return of life.
