Today the country will celebrate Juneteenth, the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States. This federal holiday recognizes June 19, 1865, in Galveston, Texas, when, nearly two years after President Abraham Lincolnβs Emancipation Proclamation, the enslaved Africans in America were finally informed of their freedom.
At Tampa General Hospital, we honor this significant day by reaffirming our commitment to building a culture that celebrates the unique histories and stories of all our team members. We strive to ensure that everyone has the freedom to prosper and thrive. Today we reflect on our history and honor the contributions of African Americans and Black people within our TGH family and beyond. Together, let's continue to foster a culture of belonging, support, and respect.
