Spartan Trifecta World Championships and trifecta number 5 for the year. The most I’ve done in a single year. WV was a great location. After dealing with injuries all summer I just went into the open division and enjoyed being in the environment. I loved the course and the new obstacles. Unlike a regular trifecta weekend, you started with the sprint and increased mileage each day, so there was something new to overcome on each course. This put me at 66 total spartan races and 17 lifetime trifectas. Next goal, is to do the world championships when they go to Sparta Greece.

I call it my fortress of solitude for a reason. This is my sacred space. Away from work, friends, family, and tv. Not every time I’m in my home gym Im trying to demolish myself in a workout. Often I’ll find myself sitting in silence, closing the door, turning off the music and working through the noise in my head. I’ll work through movements, practicing mechanics at light weight, but never really breaking a sweat. I’ll often just zone out and not even realize it. I’ve learned I need this time. I don’t beat myself up for slacking because your mind needs to recharge as much as your body does. It’s in the moments where I turn it all off and just exist that I find my motivation and focus to accomplish my goals. The training becomes less monotonous and taxing. The goals and the path to them becomes clearer. Wherever it is, find your solitude and turn off everything. Don’t be afraid to be alone with your thoughts. You’ll be surprised at the peace you find in it.

Are you ready to HYROX Dayton? In August I’m bringing the first official HYROX sim to the Dayton area building up to a full sim from my friends at in October. The HYROX Half will be hosted at and will be exactly half of a full HYROX for distance and reps (not weights). Here. We. GO!!! I’m very excited to announce I am an official Hyrox Performance Coach and starting next week you can take official HYROX classes with me. I’ve been doing HYROX since 2022 and finished 8 races in 5 cities including 2x National Open Championships. Taking on HYROX forced me to level up my fitness. We came. We saw. We Hyroxed. Hyrox NYC was spectacular. The weather held off for a perfect event Sunday and a Proud dad moment with my son joining me for his first Hyrox. We conquered the men’s doubles for a new PR of 1:13. The young legs definitely pushed me. I think he’s hooked and looking forward to Chicago in November to test out his first solo. Looks like I got a new training partner for the summer.

Always playing with new formats to improve my running and transitions for This is a great 60min workout for doing just that. Focus on generating power with anaerobic efforts on the exercises, then settle into your base for the runs. This is all about building up mileage and teaching the body to recover on the move. Try to be into your run within 2min.

Grateful for the body I have the things I can do with it. Whether it’s a competitive finish, a PR, or just showing up and finishing I’ve learned to evaluate my result on whether I can honestly say I gave it my best. Sometimes I only got 75%, but at least I gave all of what I had. And that’s what matters.

I am NOT a runner. Most people would look at those running results for the past 7 days and say I am. Here’s how I categorize runner vs. non-runner. Do you enjoy running? I don’t care how fast you go or how far you go or how long you go. Do you run because it helps you relax and unwind? It’s your go to form of exercise that brings you peace? That’s a runner. For me running is a necessity. I’m putting in the miles because of the sport I’ve chosen needs me to be both strong and run. But every moment I’m running is an eternity. When I’m Getting ready to start, I will find every excuse to be distracted. But here I am, 4 weeks into a dedicated 10k training program and guess what. I’m better. I’m stronger. And I’m faster. Whatever you choose in life there will be parts of the process that are not fun and you’d rather get rid of, but those painful and emotionally draining parts are the most important to your success. Stay strong friends.

I love it when I can miss my goal and still PR. Deka Fit finish at 41:50 (prev 43:23) and 9th place age group finish. Goal was sub 40:00, and was hoping that might get me in an age group podium. But that group yesterday in FortWayne was fast and even my goal would have only been 6th. Still got work to do on my 5k which is all that’s separating me on the hybrid races. But this was a big win and testament to the focus I’ve put on my training. It helps having a great training partner like and a great team to hold you accountable and push you. I felt strong mentally and physically, even going negative splits down the stretch. Now I have 13 weeks to get ready for the next event and jump from 5k to 10k. The goal there is a podium. 🏆
