September is Healthy Aging Month, a time to focus on the habits that support physical, mental and emotional well-being as we age. Harold Maness, EverTrue Laclede Groves resident, is a shining example of what healthy aging looks like in action. At 85, he picked up a pickleball paddle for the first time and it was love at first swing. Now approaching 100, Harold credits the sport with keeping him strong, social and energized.

But Harold doesn’t stop at pickleball. He writes, paints, travels, skydives and drives solo road trips to visit family. Each morning starts with his own workout routine, including 100 crunches.

For Harold, staying active and engaged isn’t a chore, it’s a joy. “If you enjoy what you do, you’ll live longer and happier,” he says.

In fact, Harold has become something of a role model in the pickleball community and the EverTrue Laclede Groves community for his positivity and his pickleball ability, known as the “Pickleball Champion.”

The Project Wellness program at EverTrue brings a nurse into each Affordable Housing community weekly for one-on-one consultations, discussions of vital signs, health education and medication review.

Thanks to Project Wellness, 75% of participants not only completed their annual doctor visits but also stayed on track with their prescribed medications, demonstrating stronger control over their physical health.

“Project Wellness saved my life," says David, Project Wellness participant. “My blood pressure was at stroke level. I truly believe (my Project Wellness nurse) saved my life. I see her every Tuesday. Never miss it. Having a regular appointment keeps you alert and can help prevent things from going badly. Project Wellness gives you peace of mind,” says David.

🎉 We’re a Favorite! 🎉 EverTrue Laclede Groves has been named a Favorite in the category of Best Senior Living in the 2025 STL Headliner awards, hosted by STLtoday and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch!

Winners were determined by public vote, with community members selecting their top choices across various categories.

“EverTrue Laclede Groves is definitely my favorite community. It’s exciting that so many other people feel the same way and voted for us,” said Angie Wilson, EverTrue Laclede Groves Executive Director.

📚 On this Read a Book Day we’re celebrating the power of books, and the friendship behind a very special one. Meet Dr. Dick Bilinsky and George King, two EverTrue Concordia Village residents who met by chance over dinner and became fast friends.

“It was like we’d been buddies forever,” says Dick. “I knew we were going to be friends when George revealed he’d dabbled in poetry.”

That dinner sparked creative sessions that led to not one, but two books of poetry—starting with "Serendipity," followed by their beloved collection "Concordia Village: Life and Times in Rhyme."

From duckling rescues to reflections on aging, their poems capture life at the Life Plan Community with heart and humor.

The book is now a welcome gift for every new resident of EverTrue Concordia Village. They also are available for purchase, with proceeds used to fund art supplies for the community’s Art Room.

🐾 Such a fun afternoon in the Care Center and Assisted Living Memory Support! 🐾
Residents took part in our very own “Pet Adoption,” where they each chose a small stuffed animal to take home and even gave their new pet a special name. 💕 Smiles, laughter, and lots of cuddles filled the room!
