Collin has been released by the neurologist and graduated from OT & PT. He continues to get stronger everyday! We are so proud of him and the effort he has made towards his recovery.

It has been a while since we posted an update. Collin is recovering at home. He started OT this week and will start PT next week. Right now he gets really tired easily, but is progressing each day. He has completed all his medication (antibiotics and steroids) and they are just watching to make sure nothing crops back up. He next neurology appointment is in August. He is truly a miracle!

So excited to be home in his own bed!!!

Collin was released from the hospital earlier this evening. Thank you everyone for everything! We will continue to update as he attends therapy and works on gaining his strength back.

6.29.24 Update:

Collin was moved out of Neuro ICU to a regular room last night. He was able to walk himself to the shower today for a good scrubbing.

We would like to thank Kristen Martinez and her husband for bringing Buffalo Wild Wings, Domino’s brownies and Chicken E sweet tea. It was delicious.

At this time, Collin has completed his IVIG and antibiotic treatment. They are doing PT, OT & Speech daily. He is working hard and getting stronger every day!

6.26.24 Update:

Collin has been working hard with OT, PT & speech. He set-up in a chair today and even took a few steps. He is getting stronger everyday! They have released him for soft foods which has not been his favorite thing, but speech said he could have McDonald’s today if he took very small bites and chewed it very thoroughly. He was one happy man child when Gigi brought it to him.

Nutrition is a huge part of healing so they are still keeping feeds through the feeding tube at night. We continue to pray that he continues to get stronger and his throat continues to heal from the vent.

We cannot say how much we appreciate everyone’s thoughts & prayers, texts, calls and donations. It does not go unnoticed and our family is truly grateful!

6.24.24 Update on Collin:
He is progressing well after removing the vent. They are moving him out of NICU and into PICU - this means he is doing better. They will continue treatment and work on getting his strength back that he has lost while on the vent. OT,PT and speech have been here. He sat on the edge of the bed for OT and PT. He even stood up for PT. They said that is all a good start and they will be by every day to work with him. Speech did a swallow study and test of the vocal cords. She has approved him for soft food and some liquids. Also said his vocal cords should be good with time just need to recover from vent.

Hi Everyone! We wanted to create a page to provide updates regarding Collin’s road to wellness.

On June 13, 2024 Collin was admitted to the hospital and doctors began to run a series of test to determine what was wrong with him. He had cold like symptoms, but spiked a very high fever. As his infection numbers began to improve with antibiotics & steroids, Collin’s cognitive abilities declined. On June 17, 2024 they moved Collin to the Neurological ICU and placed him on a ventilator. On July 19, 2024 they declared he was in a coma and started him on a new medication to help his body continue to fight while healing his nervous system. As of today, June 21, 2024 doctors have indicated that they do expect him to recover, but he has a long slow battle ahead of him.

As far as a diagnosis, doctors determined he had walking pneumonia that had turned into meningitis. There is only one other documented case in which a minor had walking pneumonia that went to the brain. With so many unknowns and the brain being different in every person, the doctors are trying to find the best treatment plan for Collin. We will use this page to provide updates on Collin’s journey.
