There's so much purpose in the ministry of Motherhood. Life flows through us and out of us. The quality of what's in us directly impacts our motherhood journey and how we shape and nurture our children. Empowering Mothers and strengthening families is what it's about for me.

As birth workers we should be trauma informed and have a basic knowledge of neuro science and how it interconnects with labor, birth, postpartum, lactation, & attachment with mom & baby, so that we can better inform & serve our clients. Birth work and Trauma Work go hand in hand.

Poor maternal and fetal outcomes that cause trauma effects Mothers, Fathers, babies, families, communities, and generations. Mothers are pillars and glue to family. A mothers nourshimnet is God's design and fundamental to children and families.

Trauma isn't just the event in itself, it's what was taken away from the event emotionally and mentally that is beyond the capacity that a person has to hold. It's what it did to your belief system. It's how you internalized it. Mamas are being left broken and to pick up the pieces and it shows, the deficit in American Mothers, specifically in the Black Community of Mothers is alarming!!

Mothers labor & birth experiences need and deserve to be respectful, equitable, safe, & powerful. So much depends on it.

When Mothers thrive families thrive, children thrive, communities thrive, generations, thrive!

There needs to be healing, reformation, and restoration in the breakdown between the medical system and the community so that birth can be better gatekept, protected, respectful, and I am the ONE of the many catalyst to hard at work to achieve that. One family at a time.

This is my heart. This is my passion. Holding Mamas while they hold their babies. Mothers need Mothering.... ❤️

How I train my clients for labor

The infamous "Labor Comb" this is a pain management tool used in natural labor.

We all have acupressure points in our hands. When squeezed during labor the teeth are pressed in the palm of the hand where acupressure points are located and the distracts the brain by introducing a new pain and causes the brain 🧠 to focus on the new pain introduced which helps mom to be able to get through the contractions better, it can ease labor pains and reduce stress. It can even be used while pushing.

I provide these and they even have encouraging quotes engraved in them. All my Mamas LOVED the labor comb, they used it start to finish.

After 36 hours my beautiful mama delivered her precious baby boy. Strong doesn't suffice...whew 😮‍💨. One thing about this Doula, imma get down in them trenches with my clients, pray and hold them up.

"Our bodies are temples. Reject all the other narratives that say otherwise.

It can be very scary to put ourselves out there breastfeeding a child that is no longer an infant, but, here we are, a toddler! “Mama, we made it!” 👋🏾 Save your judgement, if you will. 🤐⠀

It’s still very misunderstood in our objectified and overly sexualized culture. Breastfeeding past the infant stage is called, “extended breastfeeding.” The rest of the world and our ancestors simply called it: breastfeeding. I have breastfed all three of my children [ First: 13 months & supplemented at 9 months, not by choice. Second: 28 months Third: currently 23 months ].⠀

I recall, the big and wide eyes 😳 in embarrassment when I’d breastfeed, and even ‘til this day I still get the looks and snarky comments — “You’re still breastfeeding?” “You aren’t going to cover up?” “Doesn’t it hurt?” “Aren’t they too big, now?” Save me with alllll of that.⠀

I like to believe people have the best intentions but imagine someone coming to you and asking why you’re chain smoking? What caused you to start smoking? Aren’t you too old or young to be smoking? So why, fix your mouth to ask a Mother about how she is going about feeding her child?

Everyone’s pregnancy and motherhood journey is different. Be compassionate. When I see a breastfeeding Mama, I compliment and encourage her. It’s a sacrifice like no other.

I don’t have an end date in mind, to our breastfeeding journey. However, when we do, just mail me allll of the wine and champagne! 👏🏾👏🏾"⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I thoroughly enjoyed serving this family.

Erika was phenomenal, she humbled herself and surrendered to the natural process. She leaned into the pain and worked it down and out. She worked very hard up to the timely day to overcome many fears and block out the distractions to promote mind to muscle connection.

She had a smooth, peaceful, and trauma free birth. She was safe, she was kept, she was held, she was advocated for, she was empowered, and I watched her bloom and become and it was simply precious… 🦋🤱🏽💕
