Blood flow! As farriers we are constantly thinking about improving the blood flow (perfusion) of the foot, in the trim and or shoe application. What if there are other systemic issues that cant be addressed with just appropriately supporting the feet? Addressing the horses ENTIRE circulatory and microcirculation system is why we choose to offer BEMER as a supportive therapy to complement our hoof care! Ask us about the importance of blood flow!

Are a lot of our hoof issues from perfusion issues?

I spent time with Stuart Muir of Rood and Riddle in Lexington, KY over the last few days, and something I kept hearing from him was the term perfusion. Hoof capsule dysfunction, lack of sole mass and sole growth, and distortion can be attributed to lack of proper blood flow and circulation in the hoof capsule.

So how can we help our horses with perfusion?

Dr Andrew Van Eps has shown that perfusion comes from cyclic loading of the foot, meaning weight shifting, walking/movement, etc. If this movement isn't happening appropriately, are we causing more issues?

When we approach the feet we see, are we trimming and/or applying protection empathetically, with what the horse needs for comfort, proper movement, and good balance for perfusion?
