On this Juneteenth, I’m taking time to reflect, give thanks, and root into what matters: freedom, rest, and joy.

Today’s joy came in small, meaningful moments — the first green beans from the garden, sunshine on my skin, and time outside with my dogs.

Nourishment is more than food. It’s presence, connection, and honoring the land and the histories we stand on. 🌱☀️🐾

Recently camped my way through Maui snacking on fruits I couldn’t name, tasting fresh cacao for the first time, mesmerized by the creamy pods and bright purple color when chewed— asking “is this really what chocolate is made from?”

I remembered: real food is pure joy and medicine. The eating experience is supposed to be pleasurable and deeply connected to Earth.

A friend passed along the wisdom of an herbalist who once told her, “you gotta just put things in your mouth to see if they’re edible.” And you know what? We found the best trail snacks and trusted our intuition and senses to discern edible vs poison.

Convenience foods get a bad rep but here’s why you should stop demonizing them and lean into what works for you.

*it makes meal prep easier for you*

yep, that’s the reason and really all you need.

What convenient foods are on my plate?
-hamburger bun
-pre washed and cut greens
-baby carrots
-lightly salted potato chips
-store bought chicken salad
-sour cream mixed with a ranch packet

This meal was so satisfying. It’s packed with protein from the chicken salad and balanced with fruit and veggies and chips that give me a delightful crunch.

Healthy eating doesn’t need to be complicated or boring or always made from scratch or full of restrictive rules that are unsustainable.

It needs to taste good, work with your lifestyle without causing stress, and contain both foods shown to promote health and pleasure.

I’ve been in a brainstorm mode lately thinking of what I can create for YOU to make eating joyful and easier for YOU.
