"You can't heal what you don't feel." - David Kessler
Trust me fellas, I know. For years the message has been "be strong," but nobody ever actually defined what it means or looks like.
Too often, grief is relegated to the death of a loved one. In reality, grieving applies to change....not just death. You're not just supposed to work and not experience life.
It's ok to feel sad when you move, breakup, lose a job or even have a kid go off to college. Label what you feel, and give yourself permission to feel it.
I know society can be void of grace on the front end, and unforgiving on the back end when it comes to (Black) men and emotion.
You're either emotionally unavailable or sassy.
The remedy for dealing with emotion has been avoidance. It's easier to blow trees or get 'outside' with it, than it is to sit in what you feel.
Guess what? You gotta do this s**t for yourself.
It starts with developing a relationship with your emotions. Yes, you heard it right. You gotta have a relationship with your emotions.
