Big news for the Mid-Atlantic Chapters: Amanda Elias is stepping into the role of Regional Chapter Coordinator!

Amanda has been leading the Monroe, LA Chapter since 2019. She’s an SLP, a university instructor, a lifelong learner (with a PhD to show for it!), and a proud Ally of Stuttering through Spero Stuttering, Inc. Now, she's bringing that same passion and dedication to the Mid-Atlantic Region, where she’ll be supporting chapters in DC, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia.

We’re so lucky to have her leadership, insight, and heart guiding this next chapter. Congratulations, Amanda!

What’s your favorite part about the Annual Conference?

For Vicki, it’s not the fancy keynotes or the breakout sessions (though those are great). The real magic happens Friday night at the banquet, surrounded by her stamily. With the right people, even a simple dinner feels like coming home.

Starting college is exciting... but also kind of terrifying. Remember those trusty IEPs back in high school? Yeah, college doesn’t do those.

But don’t sweat it. This script has your back. It’s designed to help you start the semester strong by giving your professors a clear, no-nonsense look at what helps you succeed. No need for complicated paperwork or endless meetings.

It’s here! Backpacks are stuffed with shiny new supplies, lunchboxes are packed, and those sharpened pencils are ready for action. Everything is all set… but how’s that confidence level looking?

For kids who stutter, everyday classroom activities like reading aloud, answering roll call, or just saying “hi” in the hallway can feel intimidating… but we’ve got something to help.

Enter: positive affirmation cards and handwriting worksheets! Just like we learn math and reading in school, we can also learn to talk to ourselves with kindness — and that includes how we think about stuttering.

They’re simple, meaningful ways to help your child head into the school year feeling confident and proud of how they speak.

New schedule. New teachers. New chances to show up as yourself.

For middle and high school students who stutter, our new accommodation request templates make it easy to start the school year with understanding and support. They help students share their stutter, explain what works best for them, and set the tone for a classroom where everyone’s voice belongs.

Because we firmly believe the best way to kick off a new school year is feeling confident in your own skin. Visit westutter.org/post/free-printables-brochures to get your template now!

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 August is !

At the NSA, we know that families play a powerful role in supporting people who stutter, especially kids and teens learning to embrace their voices.

This month, we’re celebrating the joy, laughter, and connection that happen when families come together to create safe, stutter-friendly spaces.

🧩 Game nights without pressure (yes PLEASE!)
📚 Storytime with no rush to finish the sentence (especially when you're telling a funny one)
👣 Walks, talks, and quiet moments that say, “I’m with you.”

Tell us: What’s your favorite way to have fun as a family that supports or includes someone who stutters? Share your ideas to inspire others!

Looking for support? Our NSA Family Chapters are a great place to connect, learn, and grow together.
