Happy Tuesday Billikens!

Two moms. Two sons. Two incredible nonprofits serving the stuttering community.

What started as a parent's instinct to help their child has blossomed into organizations that support countless individuals and families navigating stuttering.

Cara Duggal founded Houston Stutter Social for Kids to connect families with the stuttering community and helpful resources, and to connect her son with other children who stutter.

Ana Paula Mumy co-founded Spero Stuttering after her son experienced a prolonged period of stuttering, which motivated her to learn all she could about stuttering and revealed the limitations of her previous SLP training.

They saw gaps that needed filling—and they filled them.

Their story is a beautiful testament to how personal challenges can spark widespread change.

So grateful to call you a friend, Cara!

We have an awesome new resource for SLPs and caregivers!

A new e-book, “Captain of My Voice”, is now available as a free download in our resource library on the Spero Stuttering website!

In this space-themed picture storybook, children connect their own experiences with vivid imagery and simple truths about stuttering.

The final lesson is one of self-acceptance, self-empowerment, and self-advocacy—because “My friends can wait. I’ve got something important to say.”

Find this new storybook in our Resource Library, under Clinical Resources:

Big thank you to author and Ally of Stuttering® Holly Cardinal, MS, CCC-SLP, and to Kate Bunton, PhD, CCC-SLP, from the University of Arizona, who provided editorial support.

The concept and core analogy were inspired by the work of J. Scott Yaruss, PhD, CCC-SLP, BCS-SCF, F-ASHA, also an Ally of Stuttering®. Illustrations created using Canva AI.
