You know how it starts: "Oh, let me just do this real quick."
That's what went through my head earlier this week when I decided on an early morning session to cut down my clematis before garbage day...in my Adidas slides.
Well, that quick task landed me with a hurt knee.
But the real kicker? That knee pain caused me to walk differently, and a few days later, the pain migrated to my hip, and then my foot.
It created chaos everywhere else, forcing me to slow down, make extra appointments, and spend time treating something that could have been avoided.
And it also got me thinking:
How often do we jump into things in our business or life on a whim, only to create chaos in entirely different, unrelated areas?
So here's an Alignment Check-In for you:
- Where are you "limping" along right now?
- Where did the original "pain" start? (That quick fix, the favor you shouldn't have done, the project without a plan?)
- What secondary areas are now hurting? (Is a dip in sales causing stress at home? Is a bad process making you need extra support?)
- What extra time or resources are you spending because you're out of alignment? (Extra hours, wasted money, energy drain?)
I'm not saying we can't be spontaneous, but if YOU'RE out of alignment, ask yourself: If I had (or hadn't) done _______, would I be in this situation right now?
And then the follow-up question: What do I need to do to get back in alignment?
I'd love to hear your story. Have you ever had one quick action or decision cause chaos elsewhere?
