Cedarhurst Senior Living We believe our communities are more than just a place to live, they are a place to call home

At Cedarhurst, we believe our communities are more than just a place to live, it’s a place to call home. We know and believe that a real home isn’t just four walls and a place to hang your hat. Home is a place where friends and family gather, a place to entertain and share stories, a place for baking, playing games, gardening, exercising and most importantly -a place to thrive! Cedarhurst believes

in supporting a strong local community and encouraging our residents to stay involved with the community through events, outings and activities. We help build strong family relationships before, during and after the transition by offering support and including the family members in our care plans. Most of all, Cedarhurst is able to help you maintain your independence while offering safety, support and a more carefree lifestyle.

In this week’s , we’re celebrating a moment that wrapped everyone in love - literally. 💜

At Cedar Creek of Washington, the Forever Hug event brought residents and their families together for an unforgettable night of connection, joy, and embrace. Organized by Life Enrichment Coordinator Kierston Cates, the evening was filled with laughter, colorful shirts, and meaningful moments that will be remembered for years to come.

Because sometimes, the best way to say “I love you” is with a hug that lasts forever.

Last week, our Life Enrichment Directors from across our Cedarhurst communities gathered in St. Louis for a dynamic three-day retreat filled with learning, connection, and celebration.

Throughout the retreat, our team explored innovative approaches to engagement and care, including sound healing as a meaningful tool for individuals living with dementia. They completed training to become certified Chair One Fitness Instructors and dove into sessions on dementia-focused programming, pet therapy, working with hospice teams, and the power of leading with gratitude.

Of course, we made time for fun too! Thursday night featured a lively Decades-themed trivia night and costume party that brought the energy and creativity you'd expect from our Life Enrichment teams.

The week concluded with well-deserved recognition:
🏆 Rising Star of the Year – Chloe Voris, Cedar Creek of Bloomington Memory Care
🏆 Life Enrichment Coordinator of the Year – Chuck Robbins, Cedarhurst of Owensboro
🏆 Life Enrichment Director of the Year – W***y Davis, Cedarhurst of Beaumont

We're so proud of this group and grateful for their passion, creativity, and dedication to enriching the lives of our residents every single day. 💚

A few weeks ago, we shared the heartwarming story of Phil and Evelyn Sweet, residents at Cedarhurst of La Vista, NE, who returned to where it all began - the Old Post Chapel at Fort Sill, Oklahoma - to renew their wedding vows nearly 70 years after first saying “I do.”

Thanks to our Dream Come TRUE program, Phil and Evelyn walked down the same aisle, recreated meaningful details from their 1956 wedding, and shared the moment with their daughter, son-in-law, and the extended love of family. It was emotional, beautiful, and filled with the kind of love that only deepens with time.

Now, their story is touching even more hearts - 6 News WOWT recently featured their incredible vow renewal.

🎉 Happy 100th Birthday, Evelyn Guthrie! 🎉

Born on June 17, 1925, Evelyn has spent a century inspiring others with her warmth, wisdom, and zest for life. A proud educator, she began her career in a one-room schoolhouse and went on to earn a master’s degree in education, teaching 4th grade and staying active in the retired teachers association.

Now a beloved part of Cedarhurst of Owensboro, Evelyn still reads daily (often on her Kindle!) and never misses a Sunday church service online. She enjoys card games, Bingo, and relaxing on the patio - always dressed to a T!

A die-hard UK basketball fan, Evelyn also loves fried green tomatoes, Arnold Palmer tea, Mounds bars, and country tunes from George Strait and Kenny Rogers. Her advice? Live faithfully, keep learning, and enjoy the little things. 💙🎂📚

In honor of Flag Day 2025, three Cedarhurst communities - Salina, Topeka, and Wichita - were selected to receive U.S. Flags that had flown over the Capitol in Washington, D.C., courtesy of Capitol Federal.

Each flag was presented during a special ceremony that included our veteran residents, framed certificates of authenticity, and powerful moments of recognition.

Today, these flags fly proudly outside each community - a symbol of patriotism, gratitude, and respect for those who served.

In this week’s , we’re sharing a love story that proves it’s never too late for a second chance at forever. 💕

After 74 years apart, Tim and Dot - now residents at Cedarhurst of Owensboro - have found their way back to each other. Their story began on the first night of college, when Dot spotted Tim sitting at a piano, glasses on, and something in her heart just knew.

Decades passed, life moved on but love never let go. Today, they’re writing a beautiful new chapter together - filled with laughter, music, and the kind of connection that time can’t erase.
