Cedarhurst Senior Living We believe our communities are more than just a place to live, they are a place to call home

At Cedarhurst, we believe our communities are more than just a place to live, it’s a place to call home. We know and believe that a real home isn’t just four walls and a place to hang your hat. Home is a place where friends and family gather, a place to entertain and share stories, a place for baking, playing games, gardening, exercising and most importantly -a place to thrive! Cedarhurst believes in supporting a strong local community and encouraging our residents to stay involved with the community through events, outings and activities. We help build strong family relationships before, during and after the transition by offering support and including the family members in our care plans. Most of all, Cedarhurst is able to help you maintain your independence while offering safety, support and a more carefree lifestyle.

You might remember Woody cruising around, taking in the construction progress with the same curiosity he carried throughout his life. Long before moving to Cedarhurst of Bethalto, he spent decades building new homes and shaping his community through craftsmanship and care. He often said, “There are always new ways to look at construction. That is what brings back the memories and appreciation for the craft.”

As the year winds down, his story reflects a lifetime built on hard work and meaningful connections. What he created went far beyond the homes he built. It reflected the honesty and dedication that guided each chapter of his life. During the expansion at Bethalto, he followed the progress closely and found joy in seeing a craft he spent so many years perfecting.

This season, Woody’s story continues to highlight the spirit of dedication and gratitude that shaped his life and the many moments he inspired.

“Make your dreams a goal and work towards them. It does not matter how old you are because age is just a number. You might have to adjust how you reach them, but never stop dreaming.”

For Beverly, a resident at Cedarhurst Senior Living of Canton, those words reflect the way she has always lived. Her love for dance began at four years old during her first recital. When her group finished performing, she decided she was not ready to leave the stage and stepped back out to dance her own solo. The pianist kept playing, her teacher smiled, and Beverly’s confidence lit up the room.

From that moment on, dance became her greatest joy.

When she was 12, Beverly visited the Fox Theatre for the first time and was mesmerized by its beauty. The grand stage and glowing ceiling lights sparked a dream that she would carry for decades, to one day dance beneath those twinkling stars.

Recently, through Cedarhurst’s Dream Come TRUE program, that dream found its way back to her. Surrounded by her children and grandson, Beverly returned to the Fox Theatre, the same magical place that inspired her love for performing. “It thrilled me to death to see it again,” she says. “And to see it with my children was the best. It is still so magical.”

Welcoming Louise to the Century Club!

Louise is celebrating a remarkable milestone as she turns 100, and her life story reflects strength, service, and a spirited personality that continues to brighten each day.

She grew up on a farm in Louisiana, where she spent her childhood surrounded by animals and wide-open fields. She even rode donkeys on the farm, a memory she still recalls with humor. Later, she married a Marine and supported the country during World War II as a Rosie the Riveter, contributing to aircraft production and taking great pride in the work she completed.

Her daughter, Vivian, visits often and shares a meaningful connection with her. For Louise’s 100th birthday, Vivian created a special peg board display that highlights her Rosie the Riveter history, including references to the plane Louise helped build.

Louise is known for her spunky nature and playful sense of humor. She loves to tease those around her, and her quick wit brings joy to everyone she interacts with at Cedar Creek of Muncie.

Please join in celebrating Louise’s 100th birthday and welcoming her to the Century Club.

Whether she’s swimming, bowling, walking to end Alzheimer’s or joining fitness drumming, Marie approaches each day with confidence and a smile. Her athletic journey began in childhood and led her all the way to the Paralympic Games, where she proudly represented the United States.

Today, that same drive continues to shine. “I’m blessed,” Marie says. “There are people worse off than me. I can do a lot on my own. I’m so thankful I can walk.”

Marie’s outlook perfectly reflects the spirit of November, grateful for every opportunity, resilient through every challenge, and always ready to go for it.
