Concussions don’t always “heal” just because imaging looks normal.
That doesn’t mean the brain is functioning optimally.
After a concussion, there’s the initial area of damage but the effects can extend beyond that original impact. Healing the brain is challenging because of the blood-brain barrier, which limits what can actually reach damaged tissue.
That’s why therapies like hyperbaric oxygen are being explored to help increase oxygen delivery throughout the body and support recovery.
For athletes especially, repeated hits add up over time. Even when scans look clear, lingering symptoms can be a sign that the brain still needs support.
