Happy Valentine's Day from all of us at The Memory Training Center.

It is so nice to see the increased awareness of memory training. Many companies are now offering memory training to a larger population and social media is helping spreading the word. So many apps exist for memory training as well. Some of them offer different levels, and that is usually better than having an app with "one level fits all."

Memory training is an excellent tool and it is recommended for anyone who wants to improve their academic or professional performance in addition to those who suffer memory changes regardless of the cause.

Contact us now to schedule your first evaluation and to start enrolling in our programs. We are unique as the programs are designed to match each individual's needs, and they are designed by a neurologist and dementia expert, and they are offered both in person and virtually.

This neurologist-designed screening helps identify whether memory changes may benefit from further evaluation. This does not provide a diagnosis. Answer Yes or No based on the last 6 months.

It is very concerning to have a person who has been told that they have vascular dementia for years, only to find out through the neuroimaging that there are only minimal vascular changes, not enough to cause vascular dementia.

What is of further concern is to see that that person has been taking Donepezil and Memantine for years.

Speak to a neurologist to ensure an accurate diagnosis, and ask the neurologist before taking Donepezil and Memantine.

These medications are only indicated (and beneficial) for mild-moderate Alzheimer's Disease. They are associated with side effects, and they should not be prescribed to all types of dementias.

Donepezil and Memantine are not indicated in all types of dementia.

They are not indicated for use in vascular dementia, and not even in MCI (Mild Cognitive Impairment).

They are only indicated for use in Alzheimer's Dementia.

Furthermore, Memantine is not indicated in mild Alzheimer's Dementia. It is only indicated in moderate-severe Alzheimer's dementia. When the dementia is mild, only Donepezil is indicated for use. Save the use of Memantine for when the dementia advances, and it became of moderate-severe stage.

Speak to your doctors before starting these medications, and please learn that unless the diagnosis of Alzheimer's is made, you should not be on these medications.

These medications are not indicated for other dementias, and they are associated with side effects; therefore, they should not be prescribed in all cases of dementia.

These medications target certain brain chemical receptors, and these receptors are not affected except in Alzheimer's.

Make sure to self-advocate by speaking to your doctors before taking these medications.

Merry Christmas from The Memory Training Center

12/21/2025

If your memory is becoming more sluggish as you age, but you can still perform everyday activities without difficulty, such as cooking, cleaning, operating tools and appliances, driving, taking your medications, and handling finances, etc. You do not have dementia; instead, you likely are diagnosed with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI).

Only 15% of patients who suffer from MCI can progress over time to dementia. There are ways to slow the progress by being active, engaging in memory training, and eating a healthy diet.
