When I took the leap of faith to get an office in downtown Waterloo last year, I dreamed of a place where we could see and meet our caregivers often. I envisioned them stopping in and building relationships with them as we launched them from this space into our town and surrounding areas to do the mighty work of caring for those who once cared for us.

This space has done just that, and I couldn’t be more thankful!! We have created a team of amazing caregivers who are walking out the vision of Hope Home Care 🩵 25 out of 28 of our caregivers live in Monroe or surrounding counties! Several live within walking distance of the office and clients! We are proud to have an established presence in our town.

Our services encompass all stages of the aging process.

Companion care can include:
assistance dressing, assistance showering/ bathing, meal planning and preparation, medication reminders, light housework, laundry, monitoring of vital signs, transportation to social, medical and religious events.

Post hospitalization care can include all the tasks from above plus:
communication with doctors and medical staff to safely transition the patient home from a recent hospital stay, around the clock are until transition is complete, respite care for a family member who takes on the majority of the care.

End of life care can include all the tasks from above plus:
support/ respite for loved ones, around the clock care if necessary, medication reminders, assistance bathing/ changing disposables, positioning and rotating for comfort.

After losing a beloved client this week, some of our grieving team gathered together to walk in the parade. It was just what our souls needed… we are so much more than a group of ladies that care for our clients, we lift each other up and encourage each other when times are rough. Death has a beautiful way of knitting people together and creates life long bonds between us as caregivers as well as the families of our clients.

Along the parade route we got to greet one of our current clients… she was cheering us on from her porch.. getting to hug her and see her proud with tears was enough to make all of us tear up!! Our favorite line that we often write to each other is “This is why we do what we do” and last night was a shining example of that!!

Today, I traveled to Columbus, Ohio to have an intimatete dinner with fellow home care agency owners. Sharing experiences, insights, and concerns about the aging population helps me to persevere!! As a home care agency owner, I often feel alone. This industry is characterized by extreme variability, with highs and lows often occurring within the same day, or even the same hour. Some clients express satisfaction with their service, and couldn’t be more thankful, while others express grievances despite my best efforts. Some clients are getting better and transitioning out of care while others are moving into hospice care . There are days I wake up to disheartening updates about clients, or messages from caregivers needing off. Almost every morning I wake up in a panic and check my phone- hoping for no news!!

Being in a room with other professionals who share my passion for caring for seniors and caregivers is truly rewarding. I am so thankful for Reel Home Care Consulting for creating a culture where home care owners can thrive, and share the wins and losses, ups and downs of caring for others. As well as guiding us in the direction of creating systems that help us take better care of clients, and not get burned out as owners. The wind, rain, and traffic were worth it to be here tonight!!
