Nurturing Nature Birth Institute

Nurturing Nature Birth Institute Doula Services - Pregnancy and Childbirth Information - Birth Support Louis, Missouri metro area. Dear Expectant Families,

CONGRATULATIONS!

Nurturing Nature provides educational information for the childbearing year and beyond, as well as professional doula services for parents and families in the St. With a background in natural living and holistic health, Vicki Kahn has been a labor support professional for more than 10 years. Her passion is helping families make informed choices when expecting a child, and to help improve the exper

ience of labor and childbirth for a positive experience that contributes to strong family bonding. You are about to embark on an experience that will truly change your life in amazing ways. Childbirth and raising babies do not come with a manual (though we often wish they did), so where are you to look when you have questions? Your OB-GYN is your best and first resource for medical care, but most families have questions and concerns that go far beyond "what's safe during pregnancy," like:

->How do I know when I'm in labor?
->Will it really be as painful and scary as all the stories I've been told?
->Is it okay for me *not* to breastfeed?
->Why do I have to be in pain during labor?
->How will I feel after having a baby?
->What is involved in taking care of a newborn?
->How will my relationships with others change after the baby is born? These are just a few of the many questions I've heard over the years, and there is plenty to talk about in those questions alone! That's why Nurturing Nature is here. My philosophy as a both a doula and a teacher is this: Pregnancy is about YOUR body, your personal and family experience, and your birth. By learning more about how your body changes - physically, emotionally and psychologically - you can become better informed to make choices that will improve the quality of your experience and help you to be a better parent. There is no *one, right way* to give birth. Whether you choose to use medications or not, give birth in a hospital or home, and whether you've already had babies or this is your first child, each woman's and family's experiences are unique. Your birth should be approached as the special, wonderful happening that it is, and informed choices are the keys! Looking forward to working with you,

Tori Bowie's autopsy revealed that she was in labor at the time of her death and likely died of complications related to preeclampsia, a very dangerous rise in blood pressure and elevated protein levels during pregnancy and can cause headaches, dizziness, and swelling.

NEW Support Group launching March 22: Birth Trauma Support for Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) Birthers
Meets: 4th Wednesdays at 7:30PM (EST)/4:30PM (PST)

Led by trained peer facilitators, this group is for any Black, Indigenous, Person of Color (BIPOC) who has experienced trauma (mental and/or physical) during childbirth. Did you feel unsupported during childbirth? Did you feel unheard or felt a loss of control? Have you been grieving your birth experience? You deserve support. Birth trauma is based on your perception of the experience, and no formal diagnosis is needed to join this group. Some common symptoms, but not all, that can occur after birth trauma are upsetting memories, avoiding talking about the event, and having negative thoughts/feelings about the event. BIPOC birthers can also experience trauma related to racism, discrimination, oppression, and specific cultural views and beliefs. This group is a place to discuss these experiences with other BIPOC birthers and facilitators. You can be at any point post-delivery, from 1-week to many years. This group is specifically focused on birth trauma and connecting with others, so you can know that you are not alone, and you are not to blame. While your story has so much value, in this space we will not explore birth story details as they could be triggering to others. We encourage you to reach out to a licensed healthcare provider to process your birth story. In this group, we will discuss the effects of trauma, our emotions, and coping skills.

This group is not for:
Partners or non-birthing parents
Those who experienced a pregnancy or infant loss (please join one of our loss groups for support)
