Anyone else a little extra weepy lately?

Whether your child is graduating, celebrating, moving up a grade, or moving on, May offers many milestone moments.

These moments go fast, especially when you’re the one behind the scenes making the grad parties happen or packing the teacher gifts, or making sure the field day shirt is clean.

I encourage you to slow down and feel the feels when you can.

Here are some ways I’m slowing down to honor the milestones my family is experiencing:

•extra bedtime snuggles
•sharing fun stories through the school year
•attuning to my own needs
•spending extra time with other families experiencing the same sentiments
•look through photos throughout the school years (alone or as a family)
•reviewing school work with my kids-reflecting on how far they’ve come
•modeling that all emotions are welcome to my kids

Hey moms, I’m sending you the love this week and heck, this whole month. People often talk about the chaos in May, but that’s all the more reason to slow down in the smallest ways. Because when you stay present and savor these moments, you might just get to hang on a little longer.

I love them. And also…mom isn’t playing around. We often use humor in our home to make our point, I wonder how they will...

I love them. And also…mom isn’t playing around.

We often use humor in our home to make our point, I wonder how they will respond to my funny/not funny presentation tonight?

Lately I’ve been noticing friction in the house and how much it adds to my invisible load. The small, unfinished tasks or the problems that exist every night (i.e. where is the remote?!)

These are small things by themselves but dang, they add up and I’m finally realizing it.

I’ve been contributing to this problem far too long by stepping over the piles, quietly picking things up without asking for help, etc.

It changes tonight (especially before summer!). Anyone joining this mom declutter coalition with me?!

There are so many different ways to express gratitude. However, you do it, make it your own thing.

You really are 🫶🏼

Whatever you feel when you hear those words…it’s worth listening to and feeling.

Attunement within yourself starts by noticing what’s beneath the surface instead of pushing past it.

Let this be your reminder to slow down and listen to yourself.

Journaling can look like a lot of things.
You can slow down in a lot of ways.

Whichever way you choose to take care of yourself, remember it can be your OWN need.

This morning I woke up earlier than usual, opened the blinds and said out loud “what a morning to be alive.” From that moment on, it was a journaling, slow kind of morning for me.

The rain is quiet. The birds are chirping. The coffee is good and the couch is warm. I’m attuned to my needs, yet open to what the day holds and I can’t wait to wake my kids up with a peaceful, regulated mom they deserve. 😌

Stay safe.
Stay regulated. Remember that you’re a great parent, doing the best you can. Your kids are just doing their best too.

Steadiness is your strength.

We all roll our eyes at the screen time phenomenon. But kids don’t know any different.

They don’t know why sometimes it feels addicting.
They don’t know why you always want them to get off their video games.
They just know it doesn’t feel good.
As parents, if we slow down for a minute…we know why. As a therapist and mom, I know why.

Let’s stop accepting this moment of friction and offer them a solution.

⭐️WARM TRANSITIONS-any buffer between the thing they want to do and they thing they need to do.

Ideas:

Go for a walk together
Sit at the kitchen table together
Play a game
Toss or kick the ball around
Allow them to be BORED
Grab a snack
Read, color, build
Pet the dog

What would you add to this list? 👇🏼

Nobody told me the secret to getting my kids off screens was starting a donation box. But here we are. 🙃

Out of sight, out of mind, until I decide to be productive and donate a “favorite” toy they haven’t touched in 10 months.
Suddenly we have cards, games, kinetic sand, and puzzles everywhere….and zero progress.

Anybody else experience this phenomenon?!

It’s that time of year where everything just needs to make it to summer break 😅
Lunchboxes, backpacks, water bottles… we’re all hanging on by a thread.

Please tell me I’m not the only one patching things together right now 👀
