My Story
My name is Tawnya Davidson and anyone that knows me, knows how much I love children! I have been taking care of babies since I was assisting with my baby brother at seven years old. I received my undergraduate degree in Child Development in 1996 with a plan to open my own daycare, but I quickly realized how much support our little ones needed so I decided to get my Master’s in Social Work (MSW) in 2002. I have been practicing as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the St. Louis area since 2004. My social work background has allowed me to work in a variety of settings and gain a lot of education and life experience. I am a strong believer in empowering people to find their voice to advocate for themselves.
I feel like birth work is a natural progression in my life journey. I can combine my love for children and social work background to help our little ones get the best possible start in life.
What makes me ‘More Than a Doula’ is my compassionate and comprehensive approach to care. I respect the values and experiences of each family that I work with. There are many options for bringing your baby into this world, and I will support and cheer you on however you choose to do so. I would love to help you navigate the resources and options available, helping you sort through all of the information to help you make an informed decision.
Studies have shown that our early experiences likely influence us in adulthood. I whole-heartedly believe that by providing support to both mother and her partner throughout her pregnancy and delivery will contribute to a positive experience that will affect the whole family for a lifetime. There is something about seeing a woman realize her own physical and emotional strength as she goes through the laboring process, and then pass that strength and love on to her newborn with that first look that makes my heart smile.
