Some simple reminders as everyone is gearing up for their summer runs!
Proper warm-up and cool down goes a long way, along with cold hose and poultice

Knowing when to use heat and cold therapy can make a huge difference in your horse’s recovery.
𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐲 (Ice/Cold Hosing)
Best for acute injuries or post-exercise recovery. Cold reduces inflammation, swelling, and pain by constricting blood vessels. Use it immediately after a workout, injury, or any sign of heat/swelling.
𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐲 (Poultice, Liniment, Heating Pads)
Ideal for chronic stiffness, muscle tightness, or to warm up stiff joints before work. Heat increases blood flow, relaxes muscles, and helps with old injuries or arthritis discomfort.
𝐇𝗼𝐰 𝐭𝗼 𝐑𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫:
- Use cold for new injuries (swelling, heat, or inflammation).
- Use heat for old injuries (stiffness or muscle soreness).
- In some cases, alternating heat and cold (contrast therapy) can reduce inflammation while still promoting blood flow for healing.
Pictured is the product we love, Angel Muffin Mud by Rodeo Road Essentials — a Don Lee-approved poultice packed with natural ingredients that support circulation, reduce inflammation, and promote healing. We’ve seen great results with this product on sore muscles, stiff joints, and soft tissue injuries.
