What’s your unfiltered response to this question:

“Do you allow yourself to experience the restorative power of sabbath rest on a regular basis?”

If it’s anything other than a simple “yes” or “no” … if you instinctively want  to explain all the reasons why you mean to but can’t seem to find the time … You will find no judgment here. I get it.

I've spoken to many women who struggle with rest, especially allowing themselves to experience the restorative power of sabbath rest.

I admit that I’ve not always done this well and it’s an important rhythm that I continue to work on in my own life.

We as women are created to be nurturers, each stage of our lives feeling continually pulled to care for others yet struggling to care for ourselves.

We become….

Wives who take care of husbands.

Mothers who take care of children.

Servant leaders who take care of our church family and community.

Grandmothers who take care of our grandchildren.

Daughters who take care of our aging parents.

It's easy to assume that being a nurturing woman is our "true calling".

But it’s not our FIRST calling.

God sees us as so much more than the identities we place on ourselves.

So how do we pause, look beyond our calling as nurturing women and allow ourselves to see where God first called us…..back to HIMSELF?

We must see that we are FIRST:
 His bride
 His child
 His servant leader
 His daughter

It is here that we reclaim our true identity in HIM.

As we encounter God through the restorative power of sabbath rest, our hearts are exposed, it changes the way we view the world. We look up. God invites us into what He's really doing. When we slow down and enter His presence with this intent we hear the gentle whisper of His voice which guides our calling to go forth.

 Friends, I've experienced this first-hand!

Sabbath rest returns us to our FIRST calling.

I invite you to continue reading about the restorative power of sabbath rest in my newest article found in the Spring Issue of The Sisterhood Magazine. And I hope you will explore the restorative power of sabbath rest in order to tap into the discovery of your FIRST CALLING given to you by our Almighty God.

Cultivating a slow life was the best thing I ever did to nurture my health, my healing, and my family. Years ago as I tried to manage a life of busyness and had a constant pace of rush day in and day out, all the while feeling like I was only shuffling my kids around. It plagued me. I felt a resistance to this cultural norm to maximize our time and cram as much as possible into every minute of our day.

God eventually called me to homeschooling. One of my top goals was to begin cultivating a slow life for me and my children. My desire was to create more white space, be intentional yet more relaxed with our time, not packing our day with every minute scheduled. I know this was God's leading. I know He wanted to refine and foster growth in me, and lead me to devoting myself to Him as my Jehovah- Rapha, God my healer. Slow is made or created, it's intentional. So in order to cultivate the slow life I had to devote myself to the growth and development of carefully creating what would ensure the environmental sustainability that I desired for myself and my household.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-3 says:

"For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:
a time to be born, and a time to die;
a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;a time to kill, and a time to heal;
I encourage you to begin cultivating a slow life of your own. a time to break down, and a time to build up;"

Friend, I had to first SLOW DOWN to allow for that cultivation process of refining and overturning . "There is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:"

Is God leading you to a time of cultivation, of turning over, or complete upheaval, so that He can heal your land and plant new fresh fields of growth?

Friend, cultivating a slow life of your own IS possible, I assure you.

I have found that as a Welless Coach, Entrepreneur, and Homeschooling mom it can be a challenge to balance all of those roles well. Sometimes I've seen where it has become more than just a daily balance but heavy overwhelm on one side or the other causes me to get "stuck". A relationship strain or "heart wound", personal challenge or health challenge, overwhelm or heavy emotions can get in the way of the productivity of my mission work.

My guess is that you carry multiple roles yourself and have had your own challenges with balance!

Many times healing is needed in order to move forward.

You might be in need of healing physically, mentally, emotionally, or spiritually. Often times there is overlap and healing is required in multiple or all areas at once. This can make the process even more exasperating.

In my healing process I was encouraged to write a lament to God. A lament is a written prayer that allows someone to fully express their grief, pain, uncertainty, or even questions.

A lament can include as many as 7 parts including:
1) An address to God
2) Reflection of God's faithfulness
3) A Complaint (or questions to God)
4)A confession of sin or claim of innocence
5) A request for help
6) God's response (not always included)
7) A vow to praise or statement of trust.

I encourage you now to take some time to write a lament to God. Be transparent and cry out to him about where you are in your healing process; your grief or hurts, your questions or confusion, your fear or doubts about his ability to heal. Lay it at HIS feet and acknowledge Him as Jehovah- Rhapha, the God who heals.

The physical act of writing out this lament can help release emotions and overwhelm that keeps you stuck.

More than five months ago I felt a very strong tug from the Lord to step away from social media. This caused a ripple effect and radical change of direction in my life and coaching business that I did not expect.

It was so RADICAL that I felt I had to release my grip , open my hand and let go to the point of potentially walking away from my business completely , if it were HIS will.

BUT.... I was at peace with that! Months prior I had done massive mission clarity work for my business. The clarity I discovered was that this is my LIFE mission not just a business mission. I knew this in my heart but now it was in words.... now on paper.

I discovered that my calling is to equip moms (including myself) to nurture their life and home with healthy rhythms; creating a family culture of habits that reach into future generations.
I know this deep in my bones!

But I also knew that I when I was opening my hands I was also opening them to recieve. If this is my mission Lord, what will that look like now, if not a business?

Releasing the grip and walking away, for me, meant a social media fast. I needed to quiet the noise in my mind.

FAST from all social media??? What!?!
RADICAL move, right!? I told you. (Head Bob to all you entrepreneurs out there)
I know what your thinking: "That surely is a death sentence for your business"..... Because I thought it too. That's what "THEY" say, after all.

The open hand meant seeking God in those newly free moments. AMEN to this!
I needed to listen to his still quiet voice. How could I possibly do that with all the noise in my head?
"I should......"
"THEY say......"

What started out as a 7 day fast continued for the better part of 4 months. RADICAL move!

Within weeks the feelings of discontement, the need to strive, and the desire along with the struggle to grow a business began to disappear.

I craved to hear God's gentle whisper and waited to see Him shine the light on my next step.

The radical steps that, according to our modern world of internet businesses and social media would be a death sentence for a business, turned into RADICAL REDEMPTION!

Have I seen this radical redemption come to fruition fully, NO. But I am still at peace with the purpose and mission He gave me and confirmed during my time of seeking. I'm excited for the new journey. The story isn't over!

A few things that were revealed in my sabbatical from social media:

💗Friends, I encourage you to listen for His still quiet voice, you won't find it among the noise! I'm not saying you have to do a social media fast for 4 months but maybe its prioritizing 40 minutes or an hour each day.

💗I know I missed things while away from social media; your invites, updates, life events, birthdays, if that's you I offer my sincerest apologies. I'm not even saying I will keep up with all the things from this point because I'm setting some serious boundaries as I re-enter the universe of social media.

However I DO love a good one on one chat if you want to catch up! Deep relationships are my jam.

💗 Coaching women still sets my heart on fire!! I still want to link arms with you precious ladies who are the nurtureers to others but struggle with maintaining healthy rhythms (physical, mental, emotional/social and spiritual) in your life and home.

💗 God lead me to a special project (that also sets my heart on fire), I hope to reveal it soon!

Again I'm not promising a new presence here on social media but wanted to say HELLO again and share the work God is doing in me!

Recently I picked up this home school resource book again, the 4 hour school day by Durenda Wilson, "The 4 Hour School Day".

I have realized recently how much home schooling has allowed me to grow as a coach. My coaching style is much like I teach my children. Giving them resources tools and my support and availability in order to solve their own problems.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised by the correlation because these skills have become part of my core belief and my being.

So when you get me as a coach, you get what you NEED not just what I want to give you or impress upon you. I don't just solve your problem, I show you how to solve your own problem and how to decide for yourself what you need.

Cultivated problem solving skills, critical thinking, and resourcefulness are things I love to see in my children and coaching clients. It brings me joy to see them grow in this way. They don't always love this process because it takes WORK on there part. BUT.....I've learned that it's so worth it to do HARD things!

Here is the amazing part!
This style of teaching also allows relationship. And though I know there will come a point when the lessons are learned and the original challenge is met, my heart soars to see that I'm no longer needed (bittersweet reality); because I know that the relationship is still there and the chances that they will come back for my guidance again is much more likely.

It's not about me it's about them! I could tell them what I think is right but there is a chance I could be wrong, what I think doesn't matter because it MIGHT NOT be the best for them. Only they truly know.

I GUIDE THEY DECIDE!

I love creating opportunities to learn, resources, information and tools and I often do, for both my children and my clients. But more than that its the opportunity to cultivate a relationship with that person through these "things" that brings me the most joy!

What is it that you love (brings joy) the most about your WORK?

It was when I was training for competition that I became fascinated with the effects of targeted nutrition and its ability to change human body . But truthfully, it was after I stepped off stage when I really began the TRUE work. There was a fire in my belly and I began working diligently to learn all I could about nutrition and what it took to continue feeling my best. I wanted to translate what I learned during my competition training and apply it to a sustainable healthy lifestyle for myself and my family. AND......that desire didn't stop there!

That's where my dream to teach others (and coach, though I didn't know what that even meant at the time) began. God gave me a vision.... More like He threw out a box of puzzle pieces without the full picture. Over the last 8 plus years, God would show me and give pieces at a time, put people in front of me, and lead me to the right resources.

Friend, last month the picture started becoming super clear!!! The dream started falling into place!!!

Nine years ago (this very month) is when my fitness an health transformation began. You may also know that that transformation lead me to the bodybuilding stage just seven months later. This day is a day I will always remember and reflect on! The day I bravely took the Body Building Stage. November 23, 2013.

It is a pivotal day in my journey that I challenged myself to do something that I never imagined for myself but others believed in me! .fitness
A turning point that began a new chapter to find my true self, to discover wellness, to grow in my role as a daughter of our King Jesus.

The last 8 years has not been easy.....I would be bold to say some of the hardest of my life but also the most rewarding! Because God enables us to do HARD things and to HIM be the glory!
AND THIS.... this is why I remember!

Several years ago after I had started homeschooling my kids I quickly discovered that I needed to set some organization in place for my own sanity. I decided that I wanted a fresh start to our week with a clean tidy house and meals prepped so at the end of a long homeschooling day I didn't have to think about our dinner plans. Plus I wanted to work in some good ole Life Skills 101 to our homeschool agenda.

I was not much of a cook....in fact I "strongly disliked" the task. My husband was always the better cook (but I think I'm catching up...shhhh don't tell him I said so🤫). But, I made it a consistent habit anyway.

Now several years later I'm grateful for this decision. It has greatly contributed to our lifestyle of cooking healthy at home. The more I did this the more I've perfected and changed my system to where some things are just second nature. We now keep staple foods in the freezer and the fridge to make shopping easier too.

Sure we went through growing pains but it was one of the best decisions I made for my family.

If you don't have a meal planning system.....
JUST START! Take that first step. Find a system that works for you perfect it along the way but be consistent in just doing it. EVERY. WEEK.
I'm going to be launching one of my Healthy Living Resets this month where I teach you how to create habits like this and others so that healthy choices become automatic and spiraling less likely even during the holidays.

After intense "diet restrictions" during my training for body building competition in 2013 I knew my normal life couldn't sustain those restrictions. I had learned so much and had seen incredible changes in my body but I knew it was all for an END GOAL.

It was from that point I sought out how to make proper nutrition part of my lifestyle for me and my family. It has taken years of trial and error to find what works for us but each change has been from a mindset of lifestyle not just a temporary "diet".

One year ago, I again found myself in a place where I needed to hone in on some hidden health issues with pretty intense food restrictions. My end goal was to change lab results (my gut) and symptoms that were possibly be tied to them. Ten months I dug in my heals and fought hard with strict protocols. But, I found again it was not sustainable..... for my mental health or for a peaceful and joyful life. I reached a point in my journey where addressing my physical health shifted my mental health out of balance.

Do you see? Do you see how we need to have balance in our life, create healthy habits and routines that will nourish our body, mind, and soul?
THIS is how we create a healthy lifestyle!
Friends, we need to be so in tune with ourselves that we can recognize when that balance has shifted. This takes small consistant steps of trial and error. And....This is where GRACE comes in! Be gentle on yourself and be willing to fail forward!

"The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him;though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand." - Psalm 37:23-24

If you are in need of support in creating, resetting, or solidifying those healthy habits.....I'M HERE FOR YOU SISTER!

I will be launching another Healthy Living RESET very soon. You can click in the link to join the waitlist and be notified when the doors open!

My Story

I wholeheartedly believe a healthy life doesn't go without the spiritual element. God designed it that way. He created our physical bodies and they are a gift to us. Taking care of these gifts (as any other gift) should be an extension of our worship to Him. But, even if we do believe this, sometimes our own minds and spiritual struggles get in the way. A truly healthy life means healthy mind and spiritual lifestyle along with a healthy body and environment. I have molded together writing/blogging the messy parts of my life and teaching/coaching healthy living from my experiences and education, in order to help you .
