Happy Saturday đť The sunshine and milder temperatures feel like such a gift this time of year.
As a doula, I love reminding my pregnancy and postpartum mamas that being outside isnât just âniceâ, itâs deeply supportive for your body and nervous system.
âThe heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.â Psalm 19:1
There is something sacred about stepping into creation while your body is creating life. The same God who designed the sun to rise each morning also designed your body with intention and wisdom.
During Pregnancy
Improves circulation â Gentle walks help reduce swelling and support healthy blood flow.
Boosts mood naturally â Sunlight increases serotonin, which can ease anxiety and pregnancy blues.
Supports sleep â Natural light exposure helps regulate your circadian rhythm.
Encourages movement without strain â Walking outdoors is one of the safest, most beneficial forms of prenatal exercise.
During Postpartum
Regulates the nervous system â Fresh air + natural light help calm the stress response (especially in those tender early weeks).
Supports milk production â Lower stress hormones help oxytocin flow more freely.
Reduces risk of postpartum depression â Daily sunlight exposure is protective for mental health.
Helps babies too â Daylight exposure supports newborn circadian rhythm development.
Even 10â20 minutes on the porch, a slow stroller walk, or sitting barefoot in the grass can be grounding.
If youâre pregnant or newly postpartum today, consider this your gentle nudge: step outside, feel the warmth on your face, take a deep breath, and let your body soften. Creation itself testifies to His faithfulness, and so does the life you are growing or nurturing. đ
