Hello! I am happy to welcome my new followers and thank you all for your support. As the founder of Orofacial Myology Practice, which I established a year ago, I have enjoyed every moment of this journey. With new faces on my page, I would like to take this opportunity to reintroduce myself.
My name is Shelby Eiberger, and I live here in Stanberry, Missouri. Many of you probably see me as a familiar face as I work full time as well in Stanberry as a Dental Hygienist and I love to educate you all! After work this is my other line of work doing myofunctional therapy!
My primary reason in starting this venture was to provide a holistic, yet effective approach to addressing common, yet often overlooked, issues that can be detected in young children and corrected before they have lasting effects in adulthood. It has become increasingly apparent that many children are breathing through their mouths, a trend that is not a cosmetic concern, but can have serious implications for their health, including sleep quality and facial development. Understanding the underlying reasons for this trend is crucial.
One significant factor contributing to this issue is the rise in airborne allergens, which can cause nasal congestion in children, leading to mouth breathing, a habit that can persist. Unlike nasal breathing, which filters and humidifies the air, mouth breathing bypasses these essential steps, potentially leading to increased infections and inflammation in the airways.
The second most common reason is the typical diet of children often lacks the necessary ingredients and texture to support proper facial and jaw development. Consuming tough foods helps strengthen the facial and jaw muscles, facilitating nasal breathing. However, the prevalence of processed foods in children's diets may hinder the development of the necessary oral strength, leading to difficulties in maintaining proper tongue placement, a crucial factor in keeping the mouth closed during rest. Modifying dietary habits, managing allergies, and engaging in specialized exercises can help address this issue and promote healthier breathing habits in children.

Ps: this is for adults too, I bet we can all name someone we know with sleep apnea and if you ask them whether they would've liked to of had a chance to try and correct the underlying issues that led up to having a c-pap later in life I bet they say they would. So let's chat. ❤️
Share! You never know who this could help! 🫶🏼
