HearingOurHeroes

HearingOurHeroes Hearing Our Heroes is an organization founded and run by students at Msgr. We realized how much they appreciated our gratitude for their service.

Farrell HS, which aims to assist local veterans, thank them for their service, and remind others how much our brave veterans sacrificed to protect the blessings of liberty. According to Forbes magazine鈥檚 annual analysis of domestic charities, three of the five most ineffective charities are aimed at veterans. It is a belittling fact that our veterans do not receive the aid, charity, and appreciation they deserve. Hearing Our Heroes is a charitable organization that was started by a small group of concerned students from Monsigner Farrell High School who made a single visit to the VA Hospital in Brooklyn. We also realized that the local community needs to show more interest in their well being. With that in mind, we went back to Farrell with a mission: to create and take part in events that support and benefit the local veterans community. To this day, over 100 members of Hearing Our Heroes have donated hundreds of hours of service from snow shoveling for veterans to visiting the VA Hospital to welcoming them home. We are currently beginning our fund raising efforts, which will allow us to provide homeless veterans with clothes, food, and toiletries, update the library and recreation rooms at the VA Hospital, take some veterans to the ballpark for a game, host sporting events for injured vets through creating the Hero Games, and host a barbeque where the community can celebrate and thank the veterans for their sacrifice. We invite anyone from the local community to help us in our mission. It is truly our duty as Americans to insure that those who have served our great nation in the face of danger, defending our precious freedom that at times we all take for granted at times, receive the appreciation and recognition that they deserve.

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of our moderator Loretta Giamboi, which occurred on Sunday, August 2, 2020.

Loretta loved our country and was dedicated to serving our troops and veterans, and was actively involved with multiple veterans organizations on Staten Island. Under her leadership, Hearing Our Heroes provided numerous services and hosted dozens of events aimed at helping and thanking veterans. With her knowledge of the community and passion for service, Loretta helped lead the group to achieve national recognition for its work. In 2013, Loretta and members of the group had the opportunity to meet former President George W. Bush, who thanked the group for its work.

Everyone could count on Loretta for a listening ear, thoughtful advice, or just a smile and laugh on a difficult day. She will be dearly missed.

This Christmas Hearing Our Heroes said thank you to military families by providing 200 gifts to the children of the 369th Sustainment Brigade, which is currently deployed overseas, at their family Christmas party in mid December. A special thanks to the brigade for helping coordinate, the Farrell Alumni who helped Santa distribute the gifts, the volunteers who helped purchase and deliver the gifts, and the donors who made the $4,000 worth of gift purchases possible!

Loretta Giamboi
Loretta Giamboi You have to be a disabled Veteran to go on the list. You can call my office at 718-979-2050. We will then try to see if we can get a student who lives close to you who is a member of Hearing Our Heroes.
