Carbohydrates and Inflammation

Highly processed carbohydrates may:
• Increase blood sugar variability
• Promote oxidative stress
• Elevate inflammatory markers in metabolically unhealthy individuals

Whole-food carbohydrate sources (fruit, vegetables, legumes) behave very differently than refined sugar and flour.

Carbohydrates negatively affect all of our hormones to include thyroid, testosterone, and estradiol.

How Carbohydrates Affect Hormones

Carbohydrates have a powerful impact on multiple hormone systems.

🔹 Insulin
Carbohydrates raise blood glucose, which stimulates insulin release.
Insulin:
• Promotes glucose storage
• Inhibits fat burning
• Encourages fat storage when elevated chronically
Frequent high-carb intake, especially refined carbohydrates, may contribute to:
• Insulin resistance
• Increased fat storage
• Higher risk of type 2 diabetes

🔹 Cortisol
Large swings in blood sugar can stimulate cortisol, a stress hormone. Repeated spikes and crashes may increase overall stress signaling in the body.

🔹 Leptin & Ghrelin
These hormones regulate hunger and fullness.
High refined-carb diets may:
• Disrupt satiety signaling
• Increase cravings
• Promote overeating
Lower-carb, higher-protein diets tend to improve satiety regulation.

🔹 Testosterone & Estrogen
Excess carbohydrate intake (especially alongside high calorie intake) can:
• Increase body fat
• Raise aromatase activity (which converts testosterone to estrogen)
• Potentially lower testosterone in men
Metabolic health strongly influences s*x hormone balance.

🔹 Thyroid Hormones
Carbohydrate intake can influence T3 levels (active thyroid hormone). Extremely low-carb intake may lower T3 in some individuals, though this does not necessarily indicate dysfunction — it may reflect metabolic adaptation.

Why Carbohydrates Are Not Essential — and How They Influence Hormones and Health

Carbohydrates are commonly considered a dietary staple. However, from a biological standpoint, carbohydrates are not essential nutrients. Unlike certain amino acids (from protein) and fatty acids (from fat), there is no required minimum intake of carbohydrates for survival.

Seed oils promote inflammation and are linked to metabolic dysfunction, insulin resistance, and chronic inflammation in excess.

Focus on whole foods and stable fats your body recognizes.

Small changes-> Big Health Impact

Seed oils were not originally created for human consumption!

They are high in omega-6 fatty acids that accumulate in your body. These fats cause oxidation and inflammation and are deficient in nutrients. When you consume foods that lack nutrients, like seed oils, your body has to pull from nutrient reserves, creating deficiencies.

Check out my video on the damage caused by seed oils: https://drbrg.co/3MQ0s4S

A large part of our health problems are related to the food we are putting in our bodies.

Recommend little to no grains and consuming meats, vegetables, and fruit. Sugar is bad for us and should be limited to an occasional treat.
