At approximately 9:00 a.m. this morning, Idanha-Detroit Fire District responded to a medical emergency for a male patient in his 50s who had gone into sudden cardiac arrest while water skiing with his family on Detroit Lake.

Thanks to the quick actions of some bystanders who heard the shouts for help, got the man out of the water, and immediately began CPR, our crews were able to take over life-saving efforts upon arrival. We continued CPR, and delivered several shocks with an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

Before the arrival of the ambulance, the patient regained a pulse and began breathing on his own. He was airlifted to a nearby hospital, where he remains in stable condition.

This is a powerful reminder of how early CPR and quick emergency response can truly save a life. We are incredibly thankful for the bystanders who jumped into action, and proud of the teamwork from our fire and EMS crews.
