Quietly and carefully, we monitor disease risk in our community as we do our part to protect children. Predictably as a small but growing number of families have fallen behind in vaccinating their children, measles cases have increased nationally and now in Michigan.
The State of Michigan is recommending that babies in certain counties (including Oakland) between 6 to 11 months of age receive an additional, early measles (MMR) vaccine.
The MMR vaccine is routinely given at 12 months of age while a second dose can be given as soon as a month later (but up to 4 to 6 years old). In general, our families have done an exceptional job vaccinating their children especially those who have already been following these guidelines when traveling to certain states like Florida, South Carolina, and Texas.
If your child is over 6 months old and has not had her/his first MMR vaccine then please give us a call to schedule a visit. If you would like to discuss this further then please consider scheduling a video visit to answer your questions. Since we expect a considerable number of messages, please be patient with us in responding.
Thanks as always for your trust as we continue along this journey!
