Spent the past two days in Springfield Ohio, attending an American Farriers Association Pre-Certification clinic. Getting out of my comfort zone to work on getting better. Was able to learn a lot from two great AFA Certification Instructors, the AFA President and many other farrier’s. Well worth the trip!

Last fall this yearling injured herself resulting in a hoof wall of avulsion. Modified a shoe into a Z-bar style horseshoe and used some impression material. This relieved pressure from the injured heel area allowing heel to grow back. This package was used for 2 cycles. With how well the hoof had grown out, last time around decided to go with regular shoe. Time frame was beginning of Oct. 2023 to middle of Jan. 2024.

5 months of progress on this thoroughbred! 🐴🧲🔨

This time around I thought this horse could benefit from relieving pressure on injured part of hoof and add support to the rest of it.

I modified a frog pad to fit the egg bar shoe, cut the pad out to unload the injured area and used impression material under pad to aid in support and load sharing!🐴🧲🔨

Giving this thin soled horse some support and cushion to walk on!

I took a grinder to the hoof side of the shoe around the sole area to help relieve any sole pressure.

Gathering up this split flared hoof!

By balancing, rounding the hoof wall, and a shorter trim cycle hopefully we can maintain these hooves better!! 🐴🔨🧲🔥

An injury to the back part of this horse’s coronary band. Egg bar shoe to help support and stabilize the hoof. I’ll be sure to post pictures as this hoof grows out! 🐴🧲🔨
