A great resource as you approach birth and what questions to ask if induction is being pushed against your inner wise woman

What are the best questions to ask if you're offered induction of labour?

As someone who has researched and written about induction of labour for more than two decades, I get asked that quite a bit.

Especially as I have a fundamental belief that there is no one 'right' path for everyone.

Twenty years before anyone hashtagged , I was promoting that very idea to women and families.

One size doesn't fit all.

You need to decide what's right for you.

And in order to do that, you might need to ask some questions.

So I have put together this guide to the five best questions that you can ask in order to get more information and make the decisions that are right for you.

I'm also going to tell you what can you learn from the answers you are given.

You can find my blog post at https://www.sarawickham.com/articles-2/five-questions-to-ask-if-youre-offered-induction-of-labour/

I hope you'll find it useful.

I worked with a woman this week who wanted some help in rebalancing after the holidays and moving into the new.

This was so refreshing! Not a big lifestyle overhaul (that can wait until spring) but she wanted to get her foundation strong for the year ahead.

She had been experiencing a little spotting the last couple cycles which can be a sign of estrogen/progesterone imbalance, lots of bloating and some acne (thanks holiday food).

It felt overwhelming to make changes that weren’t too big as she had only done big diets in the past that were strict and controlling.

That’s where I come in! When we approach healing the hormonal systems it’s a gentle, system approach. We know changes can happen in the first cycle but three cycles out is when we really gage our efforts.

Here’s where we started:
-breakfast before coffee because we don’t want to sound the alarm bells of our nervous system with coffee before fuel
-eating enough. our first instinct, and what we’ve been taught, is to restrict to lose weight and fluff.
-protein with each meal. shooting for 20-30g minimum to keep body fueled and stable.
-add in some broccoli, kale or cauli. helps body flush out extra estrogen.
-lots of water and nourishing tea.

It’s not about treating great changes but small steps that lead to a strong foundation. Notice there’s no fasting, we’re not restricting. Gentle shifts into a more balanced lifestyle. Once the foundation is built, our bodies are nourished, then we can focus on weight loss.

Avoid fighting your hormone systems and body along the way by taking a full systems approach.
Thankfully as women, our wombs have this blueprint laid out for us quite clearly.

Welcoming a new year and new beginnings!

Every new year comes with a review of the old. This past December I was thinking about the December before and just how much joy can be found in one year. 2025 was full of joyful memories.

2024 I closed out the year by finishing my death doula certification. It truly felt full circle when I sat at my grandfathers death balanced the scale of deaths and births attended.

One thing that stuck from that training is not to meet the grieving person with their grief clouding them.

Greet them in a vision of light, of peace. Just by holding them in that vision you are creating positive change.

The reason this stuck with me so strongly is because it’s how I’ve always greeted birthing women.

Not that there because there is something wrong or something to fix. But holding them in the vision of their power and strength. It’s the subtle “you got this” vibe that makes the difference.

If you’re curious about how a doula can benefit your birth, get your partner involved and feel supported pregnancy through postpartum, let’s chat!

It’s come to my attention that we’re still not sure about what’s “normal” when it comes to our menstrual cycle.

I was sharing my weekly round-up of support or herbal remedies shared this week over on threads and quickly realized we’re still accepting the symptoms of imbalance as normal.

So here’s a list of common symptoms that are high in frequency but not normal:

- spotting before your cycle (or any time)
- bloating
- acne
- irritable
- cramping
- intense cravings
- anything pms related
- hairloss
- weight fluctuations
- inability to lose weight
- lack of desire
- overly stressed

I wouldn’t be surprised if more than one of these sound familiar. Because our hormones systems (yes more than one) work so closely together the symptoms tend to bleed into each other.
The good news? It makes it easy to resolve multiple symptoms at once.

I’d be happy to talk through any symptoms or struggles in my inbox. Would love to talk to you there!

What have I been up to? I’m glad you asked!

I’ve been talking to lots of moms and women about herbs lately. Here’s what that’s looked like:

• supporting a family in finding herbal allies to support overall health and something extra for coughs, colds and flus
• coaching a woman on how to work with her cycle to diminish cortisol and herbal suggestions to give her healing a boost
• mixing up my daily womban’s tea for a family struggling with infertility (and she bought some for her friend!)
• helping a woman find an herb to support sleep that is not chamomile because what works for some does not work for all
• making medicinal, honey and citrus fermented cranberries
• perfecting my winter forest chai ( I think I’ve got it! So I added some free samples to my herbal orders this week.)

It’s felt like a wave of herbal questions finding me recently. And I love it! I’ve always had a special relationship with plants and it’s so fun to share that with you.

2026 birth calendar is open! 1:1 fertility or hormone coaching has a few spaces as well. If youre looking to finally tackle your hormone imbalances, let’s connect!

our bodies, our blood, is miraculous!

would anyone here like more menstrual practices to reclaim the magic of our cycles? let me know in the comments!

Scientists have discovered that menstrual blood is far more biologically complex than once thought — containing over 1,000 distinct proteins, with around 385 unique to the endometrium (uterine lining) and not present in regular blood. These unique proteins are involved in cell growth, tissue regeneration, and immune regulation, according to researchers from the University of Science and Technology of China. Because the uterine lining regenerates itself every month, menstrual blood naturally contains stem cells, cytokines, and growth factors that could play a key role in healing and repair mechanisms.

This discovery is opening new avenues in regenerative medicine — scientists are studying how menstrual blood could be used as a non-invasive source of stem cells for therapies aimed at repairing heart tissue, bone damage, or even neurodegenerative diseases.
The female body, once again, proves its extraordinary ability for renewal and self-repair — shedding, healing, and rebuilding itself every month in a perfect cycle of regeneration.

Welcome November!

It comes as a gentle transition between Autumn and Winter. A time of great quiet and inward callings.

It’s much like the last trimester of pregnancy. A time when we tend our inner landscapes and feel most recluse. And there is wisdom to this inner call.
One that allows us to get clear on our desires for birth and motherhood. It’s in this time our intuition speaks loud and clear.

As a doula, I support you in connecting with that intuitive voice. The one that speaks your truth. It’s the one voice that if followed will lead to your perfect birth, to easeful mothering.

If you desire this connection to your wisest self and are lacking the tools to do this, send me a message!
I’d be honored to help you achieve your dream birth and easeful motherhood.

PMDD root cause and how to overcome

When I was postpartum I braced myself for those two weeks a month when not only weight would greatly fluctuate but my emotions as well. I would question literally every life decision and often struggled with depression/anxiety.

You see I had been going to therapy, taking medication, exercising and (trying my best) finding my joy. But it still wasn’t enough.

At that time, PMDD wasn’t talked about as widely as it is today. It’s caused by the fluctuations in hormones that for some women can deeply impact our mental and emotional states.

I did “all the things” and still wasn’t satisfied. PMDD, for many, is a symptom of deeper hormone imbalance and disconnection.

Here’s how I resolved mine and no longer lean on medication for balance:

FIRST, connecting with the womb. It’s a cornerstone to our wellbeing as women and if there are underlying hormone imbalances nothing will “feel right”. An important note here is that it’s not JUST reproductive hormones but all hormone groups.

SECOND, daily embodiment. This can as simple as a few minutes in the morning connecting with your body and seeing what she needs today. Then, follow through. By not following through you’re telling your body you’re not trustworthy or a safe space. The follow through is most important.

THIRD, energy healing and emotional observation. Often, we’re carrying the stress, hurts, or traumas of our past. Our emotions al state is not something to run from or diminish. It’s something to tune into. In PMDD, I found a lot of clients held anger. Anger or rage can be directly connected to deeper wisdom. When we feel anger it’s important to sit with that emotion and find the root cause. It’s often directed towards something that is outside of our true alignment / purpose. This is just one emotional example, one I see the most frequently.

If you’d like help exploring this further, hop in my DMs. I’d be happy to offer some suggestions or schedule a more in depth session.
