Solstice Blessings to each of you.

Yesterday my apprentice students and I harvested June Berries (Amelanchier sp)
It is always more than just a foraging trip to harvest these. When we arrive we find the birds foraging right along side of us, the berries are abundant so much so, that every time you think you harvested all that are on a branch, there are more. The giveaway nature of this tree is beautifully captured in this article written by Robin Wall Kimmerer. I am reading this today and embracing the metaphor she presents to a gift economy, to the generosity and beautiful exchange that June Berry embodies.

Medical Expenses as many of us know are often prohibitive and drive people into poverty, particularly our elders. My dear friend Patricia Armstrong is 88 years old. She is an incredible woman who has dedicated her entire life to the natural world, to the plants, and to educating her community about the joys found in nature. She is now in need of assistance. Pat is need of hearing aids and I was flabergasted when she shared that the copay for her hearing aids is going to be close to $12,000. This is outrageous and neds to be addressed on a legislative level for sure, challenging the corruption that is our medical system. In supporting the meantime, Pat needs hearing aids and I am inviting you to join me in support an elder who has dedicated her life to the natural world, to sustainable living and to teaching others.
