Nurture Your Health A website about healthy nutrition and dietary supplements to nurture and enrich lives

Changes to our soil, atmosphere and harvesting practices have been occurring for the past 100 years, or even 10,000 years depending on who you ask, and have caused widespread changes to the food supply. These changes to our food supply have the potential to dramatically alter physiological function over time. It is important now more than ever before to choose nutrient-rich foods, avoid nutrient-poor foods, and supplement nutrients that may be available in sup-optimal levels.

Before anyone panics on the latest NYT article on eggs... it was a prospective study and they just asked patients how many eggs they ate over a 17 year period. That is really hard to extrapolate significant data from. That being said you do have to think about it... personally I am very choosy about the quality of any of my animal protein. I would think that that makes a big difference in eggs too. Chickens who are kept in cramped cages and force-fed a limited diet will end up with eggs higher in inflammatory components. Try to find the highest quality egg you can and always one with high DHA. I either buy from farms or Pete & Gerry's. There is a good website where you can find high-quality egg brands:

It turns out the low-priced Bertolli and Carapelli brand olive oils are too good to be true: "Koller alleges that the phrase “extra virgin” to describe the olive oil is misleading since they are added to a refined oil. In addition, the bottle it comes in is unable to protect the oil from damage that can be caused by heat and sunlight."

Why is it important to know your olive oil source? Turns out that those in the vaccine industry aren't the only ones practicing deception and cover ups...

Subtle differences in mineral content were detected as well, including lower levels of magnesium and chromium in non-organic crops

A biological component of impulsivity tied to weight? When exposed to a high sugar diet for one hour impulsive animals rapidly developed binge eating, heightened cravings and the loss of control over the junk diet, while less impulsive animals did not show abnormal eating. Interestingly, a potential biological component was identified: impulsive animals showed increased expression of a transcription factor called Delta-FosB in the nucleus accumbens, an area of the brain involved in reward evaluation and impulsive behavior

Have you ever said to yourself that you would only have a handful of potato chips from the bag then, minutes later, realized you ate the whole thing? A recent study shows that this type of impulsive behavior might not be easily controlled -- and could be a risk factor in the development of food addi…

Adulteration can be common for herbal extracts, ranging from being artificially spiked with active components or contamination from solvents / pesticides. Make sure your supplement company is testing for adulteration and use only brands you can trust!

High-priced botanicals like bilberry and saw palmetto continue to attract counterfeiters and adulterers, meaning supply chain integrity is more important than ever, the world’s biggest herbal extract player has said.

Here is an interesting new study demonstrating that different emotions trigger different physical sensations in the body

A recent Finnish study conducted on over 700 participants shows where emotions are felt in the human body. As science has already shown feelings can positively or negatively impact one's health, this study affirms the importance of being 'bodily aware' to increase health and happiness.

Take Action Now: The FDA has just released a new 109-page guidance on the revision of nutrition and supplement labels. According to the guidance, the word “folate” will be banned from the Supplement Fact labels—only the term “folic acid” will be allowed. This act would force supplement companies to use folic acid instead of folate, like 5-MTHF. It’s estimated that 30% to 40% of the population can’t efficiently convert synthetic folic acid into folate. Click on the link to send a letter to the FDA telling them we need supplement companies to be allowed to use folate!

You can’t live without this vitamin. But the FDA wants to reserve the natural form for monopoly drug companies, leaving only the synthetic form for supplements. Urgent Action Alert!

A just published study suggests that glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup, may be a key culprit in the rise of gluten intolerance as use increases. Glyphosates cause disruption of the gut bacteria, breakdown in the junctions of the intestinal wall, depletion of vital minerals, vitamins and nutrients and impairment of liver cytochrome enzymes for detoxification.
