I always use heart rate over pace during my easy runs.

My easy miles today were at a much slower pace than normal. I started out at my normal pace and quickly realized that my body just wasn’t having it today.

My heart rate was way higher than it should be for easy miles and my effort level felt much higher than normal as well. Not sure if it was a bad night of sleep or not enough water but whatever it was, I knew I needed to slow down to keep those easy miles easy.

And that’s totally normal! Our bodies do so much for us everyday and we encounter all types of stress and things that can impact our running. It’s totally normal for the same miles to feel totally different on a different days.

So don’t worry if the pace is slower or a run suddenly feels much harder, it’s means your human!

I only ran once this week. And I’m okay with that!

I’m actually proud of myself for listening to my body and not pushing past my limits. I was so low energy and out of sorts during the start of the week and the second half I was meeting up with a friend to take some new fitness classes.

I knew that I couldn’t handle running on top of the other things that were going. So I didn’t.

And I am so proud of myself for that!

Scenes from a run through town 🏃🏻‍♀️

Now that I’m not training for anything specific, I am taking more time on my runs to just enjoy everything! I’m exploring my surroundings more rather than focusing on my speed or a specific distance.

As runners we are very driven and determined people but we still need to take the time to slow down and just enjoy what we are doing. And that’s what I want to focus on right now.

I’m going to continue to explore and just embrace the joy I get from running. 🤍

Tag me in your photos from a run!!📸

Just found out I’m SUPER lactose intolerant. 😭

In honor of this news, here are a few pics of one of my favorite foods: ice cream.

I already have a very restrictive diet being gluten free and I’m still trying to wrap my head around needing to cut even more foods out of my diet. One of my favorite post run snacks is Greek yogurt with granola and berries. Now I’m going to have to find a new go to snack!

Any words of encouragement are welcome! 😝

I was never a runner.

On a long run this week I started thinking about how far I’ve come in my running journey and where I started.

Growing up I was never the athletic one, I was the slowest person on my field hockey team, struggled with undiagnosed asthma and just generally preferred dance and theatre. I never could have imagined a future where I ran marathons and helped others do the same.

It took me a long time, after I started running to even embrace the label of runner. I just couldn’t see myself as athletic even though I was running all these miles. I would brush it off as “I’m not fast.” or “I just run around my neighborhood, not in races or anything.”

But once I did embrace being A RUNNER, I started to feel more confident in my abilities and started to dream of bigger goals.

My first race ever was a half marathon because I was running 8 miles a day and figured why not, 8 is close enough to 13.1. I was so nervous and so freaking excited at the same time. I felt like a runner, lining up at the start, waiting for the gun to go off and I as soon as I finished I couldn’t wait to do it again!

When I started, running a marathon wasn’t even an idea in my mind because it seemed so far outside of my abilities. But suddenly it seemed like anything was possible.

And now, I’m in the middle of a marathon training cycle, dreaming about another one of those big goals and loving every single step of the journey.

Like if you love where you are going in your running journey!

A sneak peek at what I was struggling with during week 2 of training!

The week 2 video will be coming out a bit late and I will be using this time to rest and recover from the stresses of this summer (and the past year).

Drop a ❤️ below if you have struggled with body image during training!

The countdown begins for the Marine Corps Marathon!

One of my biggest struggles for all my previous marathons has been accountability and following through on the entirety of training. Especially when life gets hectic, my training tends to be the first thing that suffers. So for the next 16 weeks, in an effort to hold myself accountable, I’ll be sharing all about my marathon training journey with you.

I am hoping this will do two things. One, it will keep me more accountable to following through on my training plan. Two, I'll be able to help others learn from my experiences. I want others to learn from my mistakes and hopefully learn something new they can add to their training!

Don’t forget to follow if you want all the nitty gritty details of training for the Marine Corps Marathon!

DO you agree? DO you have any truths to add to this list?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1 - Recovery is when all our hard work pays off. During every workout we are breaking down our muscles and it's only during recovery that they rebuild themselves stronger than before. So if you aren’t taking the time to rest you aren’t reaping the full benefits of all your hard work.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2 - Everyone has a different stride, different arm swing, footstrike and as long as you aren’t in pain/injured, there is nothing wrong with your individual running form. There are small tweaks that help everyone, such as relaxing your shoulders, but when it comes to how your body moves best, its going to look different for everyone.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
3 - Running easy goes back to point #1 - it helps to reduce the amount of stress you are putting on your body and helps you recover and build strength better. It also reduces the risk of injury because you are giving your body time to heal and strengthen between hard workouts.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
4 - Chafing is a real issue that can sneak up on you in random places. Using body glide or another anti-chafing product can help protect your skin and keep you running more.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
5 - If you run, you are a runner. Period.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Let me know if you agree with these truths and if you have any to add!
