Depression is more than just feeling sad; it’s a serious medical illness that negatively affects how you feel, the way you think, and how you act. It’s often invisible, which is why understanding its symptoms is so crucial. If you or someone you know is struggling, recognizing these signs is the first step towards getting help.

You Are Not Alone. Depression is treatable, and recovery is possible. If you recognize these symptoms in yourself or a loved one, please reach out to a healthcare professional, a mental health expert, or a trusted friend or family member.

Let’s break the stigma and encourage open conversations about mental health this October and beyond.

10/11/2025

Today is Mental Health Awareness Day. Let this be your reminder: It’s okay not to be okay.

Your mental health is just as important as your physical health. Take a moment to check in with yourself, and remember that seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness.

You are not alone. Let’s keep the conversation going and break the stigma.

As we lean towards the end of August let’s take some time to celebrate National Wellness Month! It’s a perfect reminder to prioritize yourself and your well-being. Wellness is so much more than just physical health; it’s a holistic approach to taking care of your mind, body, and spirit.

Moving forward, let’s focus on small, intentional changes that can make a big difference. Think about:
* Physical Wellness: Movement is key! Whether it’s a walk in the park, a new yoga class, or a simple stretching routine, find a way to get your body moving that you genuinely enjoy.
* Mental Wellness: Our brains need a break. Try a digital detox, practice mindfulness or meditation, or spend a few minutes journaling to process your thoughts and feelings.
* Emotional Wellness: Connect with others and with yourself. Nurture your relationships, set healthy boundaries, and allow yourself to feel and process your emotions without judgment.
* Financial Wellness: While it may not seem obvious, financial stress can have a huge impact on your overall well-being. Take a small step this month to organize your finances or create a budget that works for you.
* Social Wellness: Build your support network. Make time to connect with friends and family, or find a community group that shares your interests.

Wellness is a journey, not a destination. It’s about progress, not perfection. This month, what’s one small step you’ll take to invest in yourself?

Share your wellness tips or goals in the comments below! Let’s inspire each other to live our healthiest, happiest lives.

Mental health is a fundamental component of our overall well-being, and it’s time we treat it with the same importance as physical health. Here’s a brief look at why it matters so much:

1. It influences our physical health. Our minds and bodies are deeply connected. Chronic stress, anxiety, and other mental health challenges can lead to physical ailments like heart disease, a weakened immune system, and digestive issues. Taking care of our mental health is a form of preventative medicine.

2. It impacts our relationships. When we’re struggling mentally, it can be difficult to connect with others, communicate effectively, and maintain healthy boundaries. Prioritizing our mental well-being allows us to build stronger, more meaningful connections with family, friends, and colleagues.

3. It affects our productivity and potential. Our mental state directly influences our ability to focus, solve problems, and be creative. Addressing mental health concerns can unlock our full potential, both in our professional lives and our personal pursuits.

4. It’s a part of who we are. Our thoughts, emotions, and experiences shape our identity. Acknowledging the importance of mental health is about accepting and nurturing all parts of ourselves.

In a world that often demands so much from us, remember that taking a moment to check in with yourself is not a luxury, it’s a necessity. Your mental health matters, and you deserve to feel good.

Counseling vs. Psychotherapy: Understanding the Approach at Twelve-Two Christian Counseling.

At Twelve-Two Christian Counseling, we understand that the terms “counseling” and “psychotherapy” are often used interchangeably, and for good reason! Both are forms of “talk therapy” that utilize scientifically validated procedures to help you explore your thoughts and feelings. Our aim, whether we’re calling it counseling or psychotherapy, is to empower you to navigate challenging circumstances in more adaptive ways. While we engage in both, we generally refer to our methods as “counseling.”

What to Expect from Counseling:

Counseling is a collaborative treatment approach built on an empathetic and nonjudgmental foundation, providing a safe space for you to speak freely. Learn more by getting in touch with our team TODAY!

It’s BIPOC Mental Health Awareness Month! Let’s shine a light on the unique challenges and systemic disparities faced by Black, Indigenous, and People of Color in accessing mental healthcare.

For generations, cultural stigmas, historical trauma, and a lack of culturally competent providers have created significant barriers, often leading to underdiagnosis and undertreatment within BIPOC communities. This month serves as a powerful reminder that mental health is just as important as physical health, and that everyone, regardless of their background, deserves equitable access to support and resources.

Let’s use this month to educate ourselves and others on the specific mental health needs and experiences within BIPOC communities. & challenge stigma by fostering open conversations about mental well-being.
