Many believe that choosing hospice means giving up hope—but that’s far from the truth. 💜

Myth: Hospice means you're giving up.
Truth: Hospice is about choosing quality of life—comfort, dignity, and meaningful moments with loved ones. It’s not about giving up… it’s about living fully, with support every step of the way.

Conditions That May Qualify for Hospice Care

Learn how hospice can support people living with serious illnesses during their final stages.
From advanced Alzheimer’s to late-stage heart or kidney disease, hospice focuses on providing comfort, dignity, and quality of life when curative treatments are no longer effective or wanted.

Each condition is different, and so is each person’s journey. This guide can help you recognize some conditions that can possibly qualify for hospice care.

Understanding a Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) order is important for making informed decisions about end-of-life care. A DNR means CPR won’t be performed if the heart or breathing stops, allowing your loved one to pass peacefully with dignity. It doesn’t mean care stops — just that CPR, which often has low success rates for seniors and seriously ill patients, won’t be used. Let’s honor their wishes and focus on comfort and respect. 💙

Many people believe hospice is only for the patient, but that’s a common myth. The truth is hospice care supports the entire family with grief support services, chaplain services, social workers, and 24/7 access to care. You’re never alone on this journey.

In this video, Dr. Melendez explains what hospice truly means: shifting the focus from curing to comfort, dignity, and quality of life. Hospice care can happen at home, in a hospital, or anywhere a person chooses and it’s about doing more, not less.

Is hospice the right choice for you or a loved one?

In this video, Dr. Melendez shares 3 important questions to help guide that decision:

1️⃣ Do you understand where the illness is now?

2️⃣ What are you hoping to receive from hospice?

3️⃣ What are your fears about starting hospice care?

These questions can open the door to clarity, comfort, and support.

❌ Being on hospice doesn’t mean your life will end sooner.
❌ Hospice care isn’t about being heavily medicated.
✅ It’s about comfort, dignity, and support for both the patient and their family.
