Prenatal and postpartum support!

Feel free to bring snacks, I’ll bring the OJ and champagne (we can also talk about the truth about alcohol and breastfeeding)

Moms need community. This will be held in my office, and I hope to host it every month on the second Saturday.

Babies, toddlers and moms are welcome and my hope is that yall find some mom friends.

It is so so important to stay up on skills. Breach, as some of you may know, is a subject I am very passionate about in terms of supporting moms and other Midwives. This is one of my friends and mentors, and I think the world of her,m. I love getting to learn from her wisdom in the company of my friends. This last week provided such an uplifting experience for me as a midwife. It reminded me of so many things I am striving for in my practice and will continue to work at so that we can continue to improve outcomes for moms and babies through midwifery care.

Sometimes we have to pivot. We prep our bodies and minds, take the supplements, release tension, ready ourselves for labor, and still birth reminds us we are not in control.

This mama came to me wanting VBAC options not provided in the hospital. She did everything: chiro, pelvic floor PT, nourishing herself while mothering three littles. I am so proud of the work she put in. And yet, before labor even began, baby made it clear they needed to come by cesarean.

Watching her and her family pivot with strength, advocacy, and grace was inspiring. She listened to the data, honored her intuition, and spoke her choices boldly.

I am, as always, beyond honored to walk with her on this journey. She is an inspiration!

I was kind of in a funk this morning. Frustrated by social media, perceiving civil unrest, feeling like I have so many friends in so many walks of life, differing spiritual, political and personal walks of life who are all hurting for different reasons. It all just felt so heavy.

I’m not sure why but driving this morning I crested a hill and this view of the sunrise took my breath away, reminding me that we are not in control. It is my belief that there is a Loving Creator who fuels Connection and fosters Community.

Something I don’t often comment on is the Spiritual aspect of Birth and I’ve been contemplating this quite a bit in the past few months. My goal is to foster community and love everyone to the best of my ability. I do not wish to alienate anyone.

I believe that we don’t get to know the full plan. We don’t get to know why we get the births that we get. I believe there is a Plan. I believe that being in labor and ushering new life in is one of the closest ways we can come to “courting the Divine.” I believe that getting to attend women in the sacredness of Birth is a role I’ve been placed in for a reason.

I say this frequently and wish to fully convey the extreme depth of honor I have when I am allowed to walk with families through this sacred time of pregnancy, birth and postpartum.

Tomorrow I’m going to have a couple of wonderful announcements regarding growth at Spiral Path Midwifery. But know that if I have ever entered your life I am sending you Love and Light and thinking of you today.

🌀Birth is never predictable, but she showed up and absolutely crushed it.
As an L&D nurse she’s seen the hardest moments, the scary ones that live in the back of your mind. But when it was her turn, she leaned into trust, moved with the storm of a fast and furious labor, and caught her own baby.

Strength. Courage. Wisdom. 💪🏽🖤
She kicked ass. She had the support team she needed at exactly the right time. And she walked away holding her baby in her own hands.

These photos say it all.

Clickbait email subject: Supplements are destroying your kidneys and liver.

Could they be? Absolutely if you’re taking a supplement your body is replete in but depleted probably not. But this is why it’s important to run bloodwork to see what nutrients may need more support than others.

Having quality nutrients and nutrition through eating well/clean, and through supplements as needed, drinking enough water, moving your body well and getting enough sleep, helps to reduce the risks of crazy things happening. (Think pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes, cholestasis etc)

I say this like it’s easy, it’s not, our life is go go go so I am here to be guide and coach and offer tips and tricks to have a smooth pregnancy.

Back from recharging with my family and ready to attend births and get back at it! (Though I also have a training scheduled next week but I’ll be available by phone etc)

I am often preaching the benefits of self-care. I also try to practice what I preach and I am so so thankful that I have a midwifery community, clients who are concerned, and a family who understands so that once a year I can go off call for a few days and go on vacation.

One on Labor Day and one today. Love how she cares for her people! She brings a lovely spirit and calming presence.

I also got to have hangout time with .vanpatten and this week at births.

Sometimes births are Fast and furious leaving little time for mom to adjust to labor, it’s more like being hit with a freight train.

Love the teamwork that I’ve seen and experienced this week and love the moms who handled the freight train like a BOSS.
