DARE 2 BE AWARE: Lyme Disease Awareness
Staying informed is the first step in protecting yourself and your family. Lyme disease is far more common than most people realize â and early awareness can change everything.
đż 1. Know Where Ticks Hide
Ticks love:
Tall grass
Leaf piles
Wooded trails
Brushy areas
Pets that go outdoors
Theyâre tiny â sometimes the size of a poppy seed â so awareness matters.
đˇď¸ 2. Do a Full Tick Check After Being Outdoors
Check:
Hairline & scalp
Behind ears
Underarms
Waistline & belly button
Behind knees
Groin area
Ankles & between toes
Tip: Shower within 2 hours of coming inside â it helps wash off ticks before they attach.
â ď¸ 3. Early Signs of Lyme Disease
Symptoms can appear 3â30 days after a bite.
Common early symptoms:
Fatigue
Fever or chills
Headache
Muscle or joint aches
Swollen lymph nodes
Neck stiffness
Rash (bullâsâeye OR solid red â not everyone gets one)
Feeling âfluâishâ without a reason
𩺠4. What To Do If You Find a Tick
Remove with fineâtipped tweezers, pulling straight upward
Clean the area
Save the tick if possible (for identification)
Note the date and location on your body
Watch for symptoms
If symptoms develop, reach out to a healthcare professional.
đą 5. Prevention Is Powerful
Use insect repellent
Wear long sleeves/pants
Tuck pants into socks
Treat clothing with permethrin
Keep yards trimmed
Check pets regularly
