🧏🏼♀️ We Heard You: Gelmix Label Updates for Simpler, Clearer Preparation 💚
At Gelmix, our goal has always been to make thickening breast milk and formula as easy, safe, and consistent as possible — whether you’re using it to reduce normal spit-ups or for dysphagia management under the guidance of a healthcare professional.
We recently updated our Gelmix Infant Thickener label to make preparation simpler for everyone. These updates came directly from the feedback of parents, speech-language pathologists, and feeding specialists who wanted clearer guidance — especially when first learning how to thicken.
Here’s what’s new (and why it matters):
1. Clear, Streamlined Instructions
The new label now features one simple base recipe designed for reducing spit-ups. These easy, step-by-step directions walk you through warming, mixing, and resting the milk — no more confusion about where to start.
We also added visual icons to make each step clear at a glance — a small change that makes a big difference for busy caregivers.
For reflux use, only a slightly thick consistency is needed, so the mixture doesn’t need to reach its full thickening point before feeding. The simplified base recipe reflects that: straightforward, gentle thickening for everyday use.
2. For Dysphagia: More Precision, Less Guesswork
When we first introduced IDDSI-based guidance, we took an honest approach: after testing, we saw that different formulas required slightly different recipes to reach each IDDSI level. The label showed those ranges — for example, “2 scoops for 4–6 fl. oz.” — to reflect the variation.
While accurate, we learned that this approach could be confusing for new users. When you’re thickening for dysphagia, you’re told to reach a specific IDDSI level (like Slightly Thick or Mildly Thick) — and it’s not always clear where to begin.
To make that process easier, we’ve moved all dysphagia recipes to gelmix.com/recipes 🍼💙
