On Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we honor the strength, resilience, and courage of Indigenous peoples.
We celebrate the vast contributions of Indigenous communities and their traditions and knowledge that continue to enrich our world today.
We also recognize the ongoing impacts of colonialism, historical trauma, and systemic inequities, which contribute to disparities in substance use rates and create barriers to treatment within Indigenous communities.
Take a moment today to learn about and honor the cultures of the people who first inhabited the land where you live. For example, Sussex County is the historical home of the Munsee Lenape people, who presently live in Oklahoma, Wisconsin, and Ontario, Canada.
