Sussex County CLEAR Program

Sussex County CLEAR Program The Sussex County C.L.E.A.R. Program offers free recovery coaching, improved access to treatment, and family support for people with addiction.

Community Law Enforcement Addiction Recovery

Bridging the gap between addiction and recovery, law enforcement and the recovery community, The Sussex County C.L.E.A.R. Program offers community members seeking help for substance use disorder the opportunity to walk into a participating police department to start their journey to recovery by getting paired with a trained Recovery Coach. Our mission is to form a collaborative network of professionals in our community who will facilitate medical intervention, improved access to treatment and recovery support for those struggling with drug addiction who seek assistance, without fear of arrest or prosecution, in order to make a positive difference in the quality of life for individuals, families and our entire community. The Sussex County CLEAR Program is managed by the Center for Prevention & Counseling, Inc.

Ten years ago today, March 11, 2016, Community Law Enforcement Addiction Recovery (CLEAR) held a press conference to officially announce the program to the public.

Through the C.L.E.A.R. Program, the county built a collaborative network of community professionals dedicated to medical intervention, improving access to treatment, and strengthening recovery support services. The goal was to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and families impacted by substance use disorder.

Since its official start in 2016, CLEAR has connected individuals affected by substance use to The Center for Prevention & Counseling for peer recovery coaching, treatment options, Narcan and harm reduction resources, and family support services.

In its first year alone, 147 individuals reached out to CLEAR for information or assistance. Of those, 46 individuals with substance use disorder were connected to a Peer Recovery Coach and 35 were supported in accessing treatment.

As we mark this 10-year milestone, we are deeply grateful for the continued partnership and dedication of Atlantic Health Newton Medical Center, Newton Police (NJ) , the County of Sussex, Sussex County Police Chiefs Association, Sussex County Prosecutor's Office, Town of Newton, and The Center for Prevention & Counseling.

A time to reflect, learn, and honor the incredible contributions of Black individuals throughout history.

2026 marks a century of national recognition of Black history. In 1926, Carter G. Woodson, the "Father of Black History," established Negro History Week to transform how Black people viewed themselves and how the world saw them.

Over time, Woodson expanded this week into a cultural institution, setting themes and providing materials that highlighted the contributions of people of African descent to history and modern culture. He ensured that the achievements, culture, and resilience of Black people would not be forgotten.

What started as a week has grown into Black History Month, reminding us to recognize the struggles, sacrifices, and triumphs that continue to shape the path toward equality and justice.

We are inspired by the strength and resilience within the Black community, both in history and in the ongoing fight for justice and healing. This month, we continue to honor those who have paved the way while also offering support to those on their own journey of recovery.

Let’s continue to amplify voices, educate ourselves, and support each other every day.
