Day By Day With Dallas

Dallas Hassell is a growing 23 month old little boy that has been diagnosed with several medical issues causing him to have to work harder than most children his age as he develops into a young boy. As soon as he was born he was having difficulty breathing and was rushed to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. At only a few hours old, Dallas was sent to surgery to repair the hole in his lung. After s

urgery he developed an infection requiring him to be placed on 100% oxygen and also requiring the pumping of his stomach for three days to remove the infection. After eight days in Intensive Care he had lost 1 1/2 lbs but was finally strong enough to come home. As Dallas began to grow I began to notice that he wasn't doing things a normal growing baby should be able to do. He never crawled and didn't seem to want to stand or try to walk. I also noticed that he had limited use of his left hand and would mostly just let it hang to his side. After several visits to the doctors and specialist it was determined that Dallas had Cerebral Palsy. Dallas currently goes to therapy four times a week to help develop his motor skills and continues to visit several specialist for his cerebral palsy and other conditions that he has been diagnosed with. Some days are a challenge for Dallas to perform simple tasks but we are thankful to God for every day and every challenge that Dallas is able to overcome.
