Smiling ear to ear being invited to recall Benny’s birth (details in caption) in celebration of a very merry & Happy International Day of the Midwife to the powerhouse women who have touched my life & my family’s life in different ways…from the birth of my son to mentorship in the art & science of midwifery.
In order of how I met them, shouting out
Barbara Belcore, & the Maitri Midwifery team
Julie Banas, Birthing a Business Education
Raya Williams, Profound Birth,
Whapio Diane Bartlett with The Matrona &
Amy Moon Luebke of Moon Phases Of Life along with other fabulous birthworkers whom I’ve met or worked with along the way, thank you and I love you.
Congratulations to the Midwives who recently achieved their goals of becoming and to those still earning their reputations as midwives in their communities…keep going. You/we’ll see y/our transitions through. 😉 😘
"Having a Midwife meant accessing the type of personalized, holistic care I wasn’t prepared to access yet with my first child. By the second, and following a then-less-informed elective induction and the now-predictable and regretful epidural + instrumental birth meets episiotomy & PPD the first time, I pursued a team who aligned with me and trusted in my capabilities when I was working hard to believe what I was capable of myself. By August 30th, 2020 at 11:45 pm my Husband and I met the life changing, redeemed and empowered version of me alongside Barbara Belcore, CPM, my dear Midwife & now mentor & the Maitri Midwifery team (Julie Banaas, CPM & Raya Ford, CPM) who witnessed me do the most badass thing I’ve ever done welcoming in my 10lb 4oz chunk o’ chunk o’ burnin’ love son. During a time of chaos in the world, and an asynclytic presenting ham-baby with a shoulder dystocia, my team was capable of delivering the most special care while I euphorically announced his name as, “Benjamin”, as they smiled celebrating whilst calmly & confidently attending to a gnarly post partum hemmhorage like the wise woman ninjas they are. In gratitude and love"
