today, i restart.

i’m returning to my part-time position after a two-month leave.

i’ve returned MANY times, but this is the first time-out that didn’t involve a physical aliment.

there was no surgery, no life-changing discovery.

this time, I needed to convalesce - to sit with all of my half-healed wounds and weep.
…and mourn
…and grieve
…and be still
i needed to FOCUS INWARD

please hear me clearly - MENTAL HEALTH is HEALTH!

i am grateful for a compassionate employer that truly supports my WHOLE HEALTH!

i am thankful for an incredible therapist who translates my complex traumas into digestible chunks.

today, i return to LIFE.

two powerful lessons i learned while surviving a mental health crisis… (pls note: i am NOT a mental health therapist.)

1. name it to tame it:

naming the feeling, the problem, the overwhelm
helps relieve the pressure

giving BIG feelings specific names may decrease their intensity and duration

try writing down to-dos, when you experience OVERWHELM

be specific- focusing on a solution vs ruminating on unchangeables saves energy and ties to reality

2. stuffies are SAFETY

a soft, squooshy object makes hard stuff easier

as humans, we seek soothing when stressed

lots of ways to soothe- some good for us, some bad

soothing tells our nervous system we are SAFE
