Mindfulness is a powerful coping skill that can improve our mental health. The concept is fairly simple but does take practice. Mindfulness meditation helps us to bring awareness to our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. You can practice this meditation by sitting comfortably in a chair and taking a slow, deep breath in. Then let it out slowly. Notice your stomach rising with each breath, as your lungs fill with air. As your mind wanders, allow it, then try to bring your attention back to your body and your breathing. It can also be helpful to write things down if you you are worried about forgetting something. Allow yourself 5-10 minutes to relax and be intentional with your breathing.

Consider these the rules of engagement. Disagreements happen and you've probably found yourself in an argument before. Want to get your point across without ruining a relationship? Stick to these steps:
1) Before engaging, ask yourself why you are upset. Is this something that you can resolve within yourself? Is it helpful, necessary, or kind?
2) Stay on topic. Switching from the original discussion might just stoke the fire and lead to no resolution.
3) Be friendly, but assertive! No degrading language and yelling, but don't let them walk all over your boundaries.
4) Take turns. Conversations are a two-way street.
5) No stonewalling. If you need a break, make that known. Try not to shut down. Cool off if things get too heated.

Having any ✨spooky✨ thoughts lately? 'Tis the season!

It is common to struggle with irrational thoughts. It can be helpful to challenge those thoughts, as though you’re a lawyer and you’re putting that thought on trial. Try asking yourself: Is this thought based on facts? What would I tell my best friend if they were thinking like this? What is the likelihood of this coming true? What is most likely to happen? If it does come true, will it still matter one year from now?
