MRT staff participated in a “Looking at Horses” Winter Series led by Betz! Beginning in February, we first observed ourselves walking and then the horses. For example-How do they balance standing vs. moving? Where is their center of gravity? What is their balance during transitions- halt to walk to halt. Basic movements can tell us alot about the horses. Becoming keen observers is crucial. Additionally, what do we notice about their behaviors in regards to sleeping, playing, being groomed and more. What kind of weather do they prefer for what activities? What are their preferred places to stand outside, in the stall and who do they often play with or groom? How do we know who their buddies are in the herd? Where do they like to be scratched or have a little extra time on with brushing on? There is so much more but boy did we enjoy the time to observe and play with our horses - plus if you noticed, the cats joined in too! Thank you Betz!
