🎉 Wrapping Up an Amazing Spring Semester! 🎉

As we close out the spring semester, we want to give a huge shout-out to Merrill Sonne and Tamia Siplin, two outstanding UROP (Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program) students who presented at this spring’s Undergraduate Research Symposium!

Their research on Factors influencing HIV-related partner communication among adolescent girls and young women in a cash transfer program in South Africa is a crucial contribution to global health. 🌍

👏 Merrill Sonne is double majoring in Public Health and International Affairs, and Tamia Siplin is majoring in Biomedical Sciences and on the Pre-Med track. These second-year students are already making a mark in health research, and we couldn’t be more proud of their accomplishments!

Here's to finishing the semester strong – excited to see where your research journey takes you next! 💪🙌

We're excited to announce our latest publication in the Behavioral Medicine Journal of Aging & Health. In this study, our team delved into the real-world challenges that older adults face—exploring how factors like social isolation, limited access to healthcare, and financial constraints can impact overall well-being. Our findings highlight the potential of targeted, community-based interventions and supportive policies to improve quality of life in later years.

As our population ages, ensuring access to care and fostering environments that support healthy aging are critical for promoting dignity, independence, and wellness among older adults.

Discover more about our work and join the conversation about advancing health equity for our elders.

It is our pleasure to present a new study published by the American Psychological Association by our group at CPSHE that may enhance the quality of life for men with HIV in the United States. Our study, “Mediating Roles of Social Support in the Lives of Men Who Have S*x with Men Living with HIV” examines the possible role of social support in the quality of health for men with HIV in the United States.

Key Findings:
- Stress, discrimination, and trauma can hinder the ability of MSM living with HIV to manage their health.
- Family, friends, and community support can help moderate such effects and enhance the quality of life.
- Resilient coping and good social support were found to enhance mental health and positive coping.

Our study found that social support is crucial in helping people cope with the stress of HIV infection and, in turn, improves their mental and physical health.

Why is this important?
It's pretty easy to see how supporting people who are ill is a very effective way of ensuring that they lead healthier and happier lives. This research can guide future public health programs and policies that better support those who need it most.
In short, It is essential to support one another. This research serves as a reminder of the need to develop stronger communities to enhance people’s health.
