The DEaR Lab team, Yang Hou, Dan Liu, Liyan Yu, and Matthew R. Jamnik shared seven research projects at the 2025 Neurofibromatosis (NF) Conference in D.C., including one platform talk and six posters on ADHD, cognitive function, academic skills, and mental health in individuals with NF1. 🧠📊

A standout moment: Matt Jamnik’s poster on cognitive function in older adults with NF1 won first place in the poster competition, earning him a spot as a plenary speaker in the main hall. 🏆🎤

The lab is proud to advance research that supports the NF1 community and is grateful for the opportunity to share their work on a national stage. ⭐

Excited to share our latest publication in Pediatrics! 📢

Our study of 1,512 children with ( ) highlights significant academic challenges that start early and worsen over time.

We also found that academic trajectories varied based on demographic and disease factors. Findings underscore the need for early and tailored intervention.

📢 Introducing Our Lab! 🌍🔬

We are proud to be The DEaR Lab, led by Dr. Yang Hou at Florida State University’s College of Medicine! Our mission is to study how biological and environmental factors influence individual health and development, with a focus on families affected by genetic disorders and other health-related challenges. By identifying mechanisms that promote resilience, we aim to inform the development of evidence-based intervention programs tailored to improve mental health and support patient-centered care.

Our research utilizes advanced quantitative methodologies—including structural equation modeling, time-varying effect modeling, multilevel modeling, latent profile analysis, meta-analysis, and integrative data analysis. We take an interdisciplinary approach to understanding health and development, applying innovative statistical techniques to uncover meaningful insights.

Dr. Hou and our team are committed to advancing developmental and clinical science through open science practices, data sharing, and rigorous research methodologies.

We’re excited to share our work with you! Follow us for updates on our research and ways to contribute to improving health outcomes. ✨
